Let me preface this by saying that I rarely leave bad reviews. I ordered takeout from this place on a Friday when they had been open about a week. I gave them an hour and got there and the food wasn't ready. They hemmed and hawed for about 7 minutes before telling me it would be another 30 minutes. I couldn't wait but was honestly not upset because I know how these things get. The next Friday I decided to try them again. I called and made sure to give enough time. Now let's start with the real review. I ordered the peanut satay soup. I promise you that there was no hint of peanut or spice in that soup. I got the clear pho broth which was a miss for me. The most aggravating part of this was they gave me almost FROZEN beef. Maybe I'm clueless but I have been to at least 4 different Vietnamese restaurants and ordered take out from several. The beef is always fresh. Just heat up the broth and pour it in and it cooks the beef. This beef was frozen. I also ordered pork skewers. It was so dry! I'll see if I still have a picture. It tasted good though but terribly dry. I also ordered the corn cheese. Never tried corn cheese but I don't think it should be 50% mayo, 30% corn and 20% cheese. It was not too bad though but I probably wouldn't ever order that ever again.
I did eat the food because I hate to waste food but I do not think I will be ordering again. But knowing my love for 2nd chances and the utter lack of food options in Lloyd, I'll probably take a chance again. Maybe I'll also try eating in and maybe that...
Read moreI stopped at Pho Hung for the first time since I was taking a course in Lloydminster. I ordered a large Seafood Peanut Satay phơ and grilled beef salad rolls. It was about 12:10pm on a Friday and the restaurant wasn't too busy, although they have a pretty large dining area and plenty of tables for guests. I had a peaceful place to sit and privacy to make a few business calls, which was definitely nice.
What amazed me was the speed of service. I was seated, placed my order, and received my food in 10 minutes or less. Unreal! The food was fresh, soup broth was nicely flavored, and the portions were quite decent. The satay was different than I'm used to in Edmonton, but it was unique in a good way. I definitely enjoyed my meal and I'll be sure to return when I'm in town again!
