We stayed at the Inn recently, went to have a meal, were told that there was a 45 minute wait for a table, and a table was alloted. When we came back, our table had been given to someone else, and we were THEN told there would be at least a 40 minute wait for food!! Not wanting to go out, we agreed. Ordered starters only, just for speed. Whilst the scallops were good, ( but only 5), the turkey and vegetable soup was just boiled water with cubes of carrot and turnip, and an occasional piece of turkey breast. Simply dreadful.
The next day we were travelling the opposite direction, and since the Quality Inn was closed for lunches, and we hate fast food chains, we decided to give the Stellar Kitchen another chance. Big mistake. We ordered one starter of soup, having expressed our opinion of the soup the previous evening, and pan fried cod for both, with an extra helping of stir fried vegetables instead of fries. The cod was good, but VERY small and we were horrified to find that the stir fried vegetables consisted of only cubes of carrot and turnip, EXACTLY the same as served in the watery soup (which was only marginally better than the night before.) Nowhere in the world could you find only carrot and turnip in a stir fry. I am STILL incredulous.
The servers were very pleasant, and helpful, but I rather feel that even THEY were embarrassed at having to work in such dreadful conditions with such a dreadful chef. SUCH a shame in a very pleasant dining room with such potential.
The one star was for the cod and...
Read moreI've had numerous meals here over the past several years, generally they have been consistently good, with an occasional hiccup. On my most recent visit, things were great. The one thing I will mention, inflation has definitely affected restaurants locally, so prices aren't cheap in general, so prices aside.. they have cloth napkins and generally give you some dinner rolls and butter during the supper menu, so a little bit of good old days classy-ness. Seafood chowder - was probably the best I've had, topped with a chunk of salmon and a piece of shrimp. The partridgeberry jam spinach salad, was delicious (had mine without onion). Also the bacon onion jam burger was a hit, their fries are well seasoned, and the view is pretty good if you make a reservation for a window seat. Also, typically the staff are at least good, and...
Read moreMe and my partner both ordered the bacon cheeseburger. I made my fries into a poutine. Little did I know, poutine here means they're going to cover your entire plate in gravy. My burger bun was sogged. Also you couldn't taste the bacon or the beef in the burger because it was overpowered by the intense flavor of chili powder. If it weren't for it being the end of the night we would have went elsewhere and complained but you live and learn. Also, the lady at the door seemed very annoyed when delivering our food when I asked how payment worked. It was the end of the night so I understand being tired but patience...
