Went there today and was not impressed at all went there around 4:30 asked if you ordered online said no they said the wait time is 7pm. So we decided to go outside and talk about our decision while we were outside talking the guy making the fish outside under the tent decided to get into our business and ask what we are looking for we said fish and chips but it’s too long of a wait and he said that’s how it works you order online and if you go anywhere else you’ll have to wait hours, you should check our Facebook page tells you everything. We didn’t respond back as the guys tone was very rude and my dad turned around but still standing there and I was still standing there the guy decided to call my dad a swear word while shaking his head cause we didn’t respond (why respond to someone who’s going to be rude towards us), my dad did nothing wrong to be called any name. Once I heard that we decided forget about it they will never get our business thats not how you treat a potential customer. Also the fish is not fresh we watched it come out of a cardboard box frozen and right into the deep fryer. We took our business somewhere else and we waited in line at 5 and got our food at 6:30, not like the guy said hours if you go somewhere else, way better then your time of 7pm or later as you guys were behind. Nowhere did it say you have to order online most fish and chips places it’s you go there wait in line and get your food, they take away the ordering online for...
Read moreOur regular fish and chips place (Old Tyme in Bowmanville) closed for part of the pandemic. Thus, my family decided to order elsewhere and chose The Fisherman because it was closest. My grandparents also used to go there years ago.
My family really likes fish and chips, which led to us ordering from there twice. We won’t be doing so again.
The staff were busy but were pretty nice, and I won’t say anything bad about them. Especially since it was during a pandemic and they were busy. It’s hard to really rate the service fairly, but it was fine.
The food, though, was pretty mediocre. There wasn’t a lot of taste to the fish and chips, and it paled in comparison to Old Tyme. It wasn’t something I would personally ever go out of my way to have again.
On top of that, the prices were ridiculously expensive, especially in comparison to Old Tyme. There, I can get two haddock and two fries for $14.50. At The Fisherman, it cost us a lot more.
It cost us $90 or so the first time we ordered, and we only ordered for several (5) people. This isn’t a big family. It was up to $30 more than we pay elsewhere and...

Sept 2024 -I am sorry to have to do this but ordered two pieces of fish and fries for $30 and this is all we got. At least cover the bottom of the box and have fresh fries and not all crispy small ones Sad, a year ago they were top notch. Wish I had a picture from my first review. Picture is from review in 2024.
Previous review from 2023- Had the pleasure of trying the food at this establishment last night. Ordered a head of pick up time and requested I pick up the food ten minutes before they were closed (was working until the time they closed). My meal had just finished being cooked and packaged, they gave an incredible amount of tar tar sauce. Our dinner was incredible. We didn't eat right away, and when we did everything was still crispy, warm and not soggy. Definitely our new fish n chips stop (we live in...
