Attempted a dinner out, and to no avail.

My guest and I were put into a boxed corner that was covered in probably 100 gnats. These flies (amongst other species) were all over the wall and a disgustingly dirty cushion on a bench that the restaurant asked me to sit on. Took 15 minutes for the waitress to come to our table to ask our drink orders and another 5 minutes to bring 2 soft drinks. Ordered a starter Caesar salad + main course, and the Caesar salad was delivered by our waitress standing 5 feet away from our table, holding the salad out (for me to serve myself) saying “here ya go”, with no care in the world. The salad was delivered with a child’s fork (not a salad fork). The salad dressing was heavily watered down and tasted awful. Because our waitress was grossly inattentive I waived down another server to ask to speak with their supervisor/manager - who in turn initially tried to forego mentioning that she was the front end manager, and attempted to resolve the issue by just redoing the salad, ignoring my intention to talk about my experience. (In all honesty, I didn’t want another salad, afraid that I might find a fallen soldier (the gnats!).

One of the worst dine out experiences that I have come across in a long time, including the state of the restaurant and its inhabitants. We were tired of swatting flies from our face so we left and found another place to enjoy some great food and drinks to celebrate a birthday!

“Oh we can’t help the flies, it was hot outside the last two days” is not an excuse, and inattentive management and waitresses will effect your business (daughter or not!)

Will not be returning, and will find our Irish noms...

Always loved this place great food ... my husband is from Ireland ...so we love various items from menu ...but went today .. first time since pandemic ... there was 4 of us ...and none of our meals were hot ...Luke warm at best ...the fish dinner was not a beer batter...but some frozen meal type bread ..severely disappointing...the,waitress with the irish accent...kept forgetting that we asked water ...or coffee ..very different then the many times we were there before ...was going to give 2 stars ...but decided on 3 because we loved it before ...quality has dropped

Response to John ...all 4 of our meals were Luke warm .....my cousin said she didnt want it just thrown inyo the microwave ...we were hesitant to return meal ...in this time of pandemic yes we were there today / yesterday now Our guests asked for water ...she forgot to bring it ...same with coffee...which is no big deal ...buy it wasn't busy in there tho The fish batter ...wasn't like normal batter . More like the thick bread batter you would find on chicken balls in buffets

October 20/2024 Went back and was further unhappy with the food ..service .. waitress shakarra I think was her name was fabulous! But it is an Irish restaurant ..no longer carry coddle ..I had bangers and Mash ..was supposed to have. Colcannon mashed potatoes ..was horrible ..it was mash potatoes with cold chunks of raw chopped onions in it ..and a little springle on top cabbage on top ..wasn't happy ..and my stomach was not well after it ...my husband enjoyed his Irish breakfast tho ..I use to recommend but will no...

A delightful experience not to be missed! I came here with a friend of mine who recommended it when we were out for a drive and raved about it almost the whole drive there. The menu has an excellent selection of traditional Irish pub fare and also more fancy options with something anyone of any age will enjoy. I have come here many times now and the service and staff have always been lovely, busy or quiet, they aim to make your experience a great one. My favourite unfortunately is off the menu now, the Coddle, but on occasion they have had it as a special, so it might be gone, but certainly not forgotten. Their trio of pot pies warms the soul and the traditional chips (fries) are scrumptious. The decor of the little space will captivate you and your fellow foodie friends. There are a multitude of different furniture pieces and a mishmash of art work, photos and memorabilia filling every wall, which adds to the experience in many ways, but as a tall person I have had to request being moved to another seating because my legs didn’t fit well under the table and I would either bang them or practically have to sit legs spread wide open. While comical in the moment, it wouldn’t have been comfortable to stay in for a whole meal. That being said I can’t wait to go back again and during the pandemic they are still open for takeout. While I greatly miss being able to sit inside, if takeout can keep this outstanding little gem open then I am all for it. If you get a chance to eat here, do it, you...

We snagged a table here on St. Patrick’s Day - albeit we chose to sit out on the heated patio and got caught in a hail storm haha! But, it added to the fun, honestly. The kids thought it was awesome. The food was fantastic - had the Guinness stew which came with soda bread, mashed potatoes and veg. My son had the kids pasta with tomato sauce (shocker) - he gobbled it up in seconds. The service was excellent despite how busy it was. The only consideration for people is if the weather is quite chilly or unpredictable - choose to sit inside if you are not prepared for the elements! Again, we chose to sit outside so this is in no way a criticism of the restaurant. Have been to Walsh’s Snug many times but probably over a decade ago when my friend was living in Newcastle - just as fantastic now as it was then. Worth the stop if you’re travelling through Newcastle, that’s for sure!

This is such a cute place! It was my first time coming here and we were greeted right away by the owner and seated. (I think he was the owner). Our table was in a nice private nook. The decor is very interesting and along with the music, makes you feel like you could be in Ireland haha. Our server Alisha was very friendly and efficient. We tried the 'scabby leg' and the 'tinkers red' beers and they were both good. I got the liver and onions which was really good, and a huge portion, I had leftovers for the next day. Also, the bread that came with the meal was DELICIOUS! My husband got the Dublin Lawyer lobster roll meal, and our friends got the curry and the fish and chips. They all liked their meals as well. Great experience and will 100% be back sometime.

Oh. My. Goodness. What to say? Sadly, no Murphy's or a Eponymous Burger to keep my streak running - but what I did get was delicious and well done. Wow - the beer battered burger? Entirely worth the years it probably took off my life. Gravy was fantastically beefy, fries were excellent, and the freshest coleslaw I've had in a while. Fries are small sliced with skins on. Lemon cake for dessert - I don't know where they get it, but it was wonderfully done. Not too much icing, and significant amounts of grated lemon peel (as is proper) mixed in the layers. Staff was wonderful, and it made me wish it was my local - I'd be there all the time.
