On a recent mystery tour that led us to Cobourg, my wife and I were looking for a great independent restaurant for an early dinner. We stumbled upon The Mill, which looked interesting since it was part of a golf course. We checked out the menu online and were impressed by the reasonable prices.
We were thrilled to find an open table for two on their lovely patio. Our server, Carly, was fantastic. She gave us some great recommendations, pointing out popular dishes and what other diners were enjoying. Based on her suggestions, we both ordered sandwiches. I had the Reuben sandwich, which was packed with delicious corned beef, sauerkraut, and dill pickle. It was a really authentic flavor, and my only wish was for a little more meat. My wife ordered the Chicken Club Sandwich and absolutely loved the grilled chicken breast and the excellent sweet potato fries that came with it.
I paired my meal with a dark lager from Northumberland Hills brewery, and my wife enjoyed a great glass of Australian red wine. The atmosphere was incredible, surrounded by lush greenery and the beautiful, lovingly restored architecture of the 1830s-era mill.
We had such a wonderful experience that we're already planning to go back the next time we're in Cobourg. I would highly recommend The Mill to anyone passing...
Read moreWent there for lunch today. We were seated indoors and as the server was telling us the specials, someone increased the volume on the music playing until it was impossible to hear what she was saying. I asked her to please turn down the music so I could hear the specials and also so my mother could her our conversation... she is hearing impaired and uses bilateral hearing aids so cannot deal with background noise. Our server left, took a little time to turn down the music and then went off to serve others at a table close to ours. She then glanced at us... we had our menus closed indicating we needed her back, and then she went outside on the patio to serve someone else. In disgust we walked out. This is certainly not the way we are used to being treated and I will not tolerate such rudeness aimed at myself or my elderly mother. My money is worth the same as every one else's so we took it elsewhere and had a great lunch where we were treated respectfully. If you have any self respect I would recommend you...
Read moreIn my opinion the worst food ever ! I'm only giving it a star because the waitress was fine. As for the food, a no star rating. Warm brie overpowered by the blueberry coulis. Pork schnitzel badly in need of seasoning..at the least some salt. Ribs were dry and slathered in what tasted like a bottled sauce. Worst was the trout..the smallest portion I've ever seen served skin side up but not crispy and covered with a thick, sticky, asian "inspired" sauce that had been reduced far too much and surrounded by a few cubes of sweet potato, unseasoned, and the shavings of a brussels sprout that had seen better days. All three meals cold and appearing and tasting as if they had been sitting in the pass for at least an hour drying out. Shame on you chef for letting those plates leave the kitchen! I would normally have sent the meals back and complained to the chef however, this was an occasion meal and didn't want to spoil the conversation and mood. But I will...
