Sushi Wara — Restaurant in Comox

No idea why people are saying this place makes good Japanese food. I ordered the chicken bento box (which was extremely over priced for the quality) and the chicken katsu and the house special roll. The bento was the worst bento I have ever had. The chicken was rubbery, and I question if it was even real chicken. It has a very processed texture like the inside of a chicken nugget at McDonald’s. Very low quality for such a high price. The teriyaki sauce was literally the texture of jello. It was absolutely disgusting. Cold jello sauce on weird rubbery chicken! Also they didn’t even serve the chicken on a bed or rice?? Seriously, for $30 they can’t even serve it on rice? How about a garnish of fruit?? Like most bentos at other restaurants. Nope ! I have no idea how people are giving this restaurant good reviews. The food quality is below food courts and I would never recommend it nor will I be returning. The Katsu was equally disgusting. Excellent high quality delish Sushi, we have ordered multiples times & it's always fresh & beautiful presentation. Highly recommend 🙂, BEST in CV + wonderful service & staff.

EDIT: I finally got around to trying the Burning 🔥🌋 Volcano Roll today and it was unbelievably delicious, such variety of textures, flavours & ingredients ~ a Masterpiece! See pic very generous portion, worth the money 😋

EDIT#2: End of April 2023 ~ AMAZING dine in experience, on a very busy Fri Night! No reservations, we walked in, waited just a few min. for amazing seating, the BEST service (we had 3 lovely ladies help us, all with huge smiles) & the most Delish Sushi/Sashimi & Saki, wow!!!

What an experience, my husband was in heaven trying the 🌋 Amazing Volcano Roll his first time. Now his all time favourite food experience, to date. WoW

We also had Tempura 🍤 (delish & good portion) & The Veggie Roll was beautiful presentation, rainbow colours & Exquisite taste.

Highly recommend, the fact it's so busy & everyone has a huge smile (staff & customers whether dine in or takeout/pickup) says...

I used to enjoy dining at Sushi Wara, but my recent experience left much to be desired. While some staff remains friendly, the quality of the food has declined. The rice in the sushi rolls was dry and the tuna seemed stale, which was a disappointment given their previous reputation for fresh food.

To make matters worse, we found a piece of plastic in one of the rolls, which raised concerns about the restaurant's cleanliness and safety standards. When we brought this to the attention of the staff, they were dismissive and unprofessional in their response, which was disappointing.

On top of this, we had an issue with our bill where we were charged for an item we didn't order. Although it was only a $5 difference, the manager argued with us disrespectfully when we brought it to their attention.

Overall, while the sushi place still has some positive qualities, the decline in food quality and poor customer service make it difficult...
