Dragon 88 — Restaurant in Conception Bay South

For starters, The service was awesome. The person who looked after us was nice, and pleasant. The place Looked nice and clean the price was fair and they were very prompt at having our food ready on time which I absolutely appreciate. The food on the other hand was another thing. I had the dinner for 1 with substitute noodles instead of rice, and an order of fried wonton. The wontons were ok; Crunchy but they had this odd after taste like they were fried in very old grease. Wontons are a staple for us eating at a Chinese food restaurant and most of the time they taste amazing on the contrary to this evenings order. The egg rolls had the same taste as well and didn't taste fresh.The won ton soup was very fresh (not in a good way) with little flavor, and the noodles I ordered had a burnt taste on them,and were very dry.The Chowmein was delish. Very tasty and fresh, chicken balls were pretty good but far from as good as many of the other local restaurants I've eaten at. All in all it's not the worst I've had but far from the best. I've tried Dragon 88 many times but the last several times they have failed to capture the taste of what I feel a good canadian chineese food meal should be. On April 5th we went here for their buffet. Have had several times since reopening and been really good. I have to say I left very disappointed this time. Server asked if having buffet which we said yes. A lot of dishes were either empty or almost empty. Figured more coming out shortly. Another server (young man) mentioned slow tonight so if you want anything brought out for the buffet just let him know. Thought this was weird but asked for Sesame seed pork, egg rolls, and ribs. We were there an hour (5:30 - 6:30) and only item came out were about 5-6 egg rolls. We managed to get our fill but this is not how a buffet should be run, having customer ask for certain items to be brought out because so. Disappointed as we have been praising how good the buffet was to our friends and now not so sure we should be recommending this...

Had this at a friend's house again recently: Still the same as 2 years ago. Food is mediocre and poor quality compared to other Chinese food restaurant options in CBS or Town. Extremely long wait time. I really don't understand the loyalty to this restaurant's food when it's just terrible quality.

2020: Not the best Chinese food. The interior is dingy, cramped and not aesthetically pleasing. It looks so run down...inside and out. The waiting area is very cramped and parking is terrible. There are better Chinese restaurants in CBS so its not likely I'll return...
