Donair Affair — Restaurant in Coquitlam

Food and service is okay, hence the two stars. The incident happened when I went in and two of the ladies were organizing Swiffer products on the cutting board. Told them they shouldn't really put anything other than food there, and one of the ladies started wiping the cutting boards with Clorox Disinfecting Multi-purpose wipes. Told her again she shouldn't be using those wipes before preparing food because those wipes contain harsh chemicals. She kept telling me this place was clean and they used the wipes for everything. Asked her if she used the wipes for her cutting boards at home, and she said yes with confidence. I googled those wipes and it specifically says on the website "This product is not for use on dishes, glassware or eating utensils." If a restaurant does not have a common sense on where to clean with what, I do not know if I want to go back there.

Reply to the comment left by the owner: On that day, I saw two female staff wiping the cutting board with the Clorox wipes. Why would I even care about what she does at home? She was wiping with it just as I was placing my order and that's when I mentioned it to her. If she is saying something different to you, she is not telling...

The only reason I am writing this review is because they charge fees for credit card use. As of May 2023, this is legally permitted in Canada however this is the only business I have seen do this.

The fee they charge is higher than all credit card interchange fees, even higher than AMEX. So they keep the rest for themselves. (They also tell you No AMEX, but it will go through) So they charge you higher than an AMEX rate, yet they don't want to pay it by letting you swipe an AMEX?!?

This bothers me especially when I was charged a dollar for extra jalapenos. This was not mentioned when I ordered more.

We can do without business practices as these.

This business is not doing anything illegal. In these competitive times, take your business somewhere that is not sneaky and offers meaningfully transparency in it's practices.

By far the worst place to eat. Eat there if you want to get sick and suffer from diarrhea for at least a week. The customer service is terrible and the lady who serves the food is very rude. And if you complaint to the owner, he does not care. They close their restaurant at 9 pm, and even if you walk in at 8:45 pm, the lady who works there will first give a big stare at the wall clock and then at you to make you feel that you have committed some mistake to be there just 15 minutes before their closing. They have a small sign facing toward customer saying "SMILE PLEASE", but whether the owner or the employee working there will ever smile back at you. Their counter is dirty. The food is not stored at right temperature. Number of times I have seen the meat just laying on the counter and not store properly in the cooler. This is the major reason for their food contamination. I am never going back...
