Robert's Donairs and pizza & Subs — Restaurant in Dartmouth

Robert’s Donair is a true little gem in the HRM. A friend of mine recommended this spot to me. My first visit yielded me the “Robert’s Special” sub. I was NOT prepared at just how tasty & massive a small sub was. Piled high with fresh cut meat (pepperoni, salami, Donair meat) and the fixin’s. The Donair meat was very tasty…with the right amount of spice! I could only manage to eat half of it. Wow!

It was so delicious that I went back before I left the city. I ordered a 16” pizza with pepperoni, bacon, ground beef & green peppers (on my half. My wife wanted onions.). The crust was rolled out & tossed before me, and the ground beef was delicious. I used to work at a pizza joint where we cooked the beef & then ground it in the machine. That’s the way to do it. Again, generous toppings, and the crust had that perfect balance of chew & softness.

What also made a huge impression on me was the owner & his staff were super friendly. We talked about what brought me in at 11:30 pm at night (late night hungries & early morning flight out of town). When I went back, he asked me about my weekend trip to Toronto. Now that is personalized service $ the way you solidify a return customer. I woulda went back based on the food alone but Mr. Kafour & staff made a great experience.

Located on Windmill Road in Dartmouth, this little nondescript place offered the best pizza & oven sub I had in a long time!!!

Check out Robert’s. Get some delicious food & make a friend at the same time!!!! Next time I’m gonna order the Donair plate. I heard nothing but...

Our first time here and it was such a great experience!! The staff were kind, warm and inviting 💕. Even the other customers waiting for their orders (clearly regulars), were friendly, polite & helpful. It was awesome to see the owner & staff address most people by name, and ask how their family’s were doing. No convection belt pizzas in this place! The owner worked that oven like the seasoned pro they are!! I nearly dropped my order when it was handed to me, it was that heavy!! Ordered a large works pizza, garlic fingers with bacon and a “small” Donair.

Even after a 20+ minute drive home, our crusts were still crispy, and these beasts were LOADED with toppings & cheese!!! The donair felt like a bundled baby, and geez was it ever stuffed with their homemade, and gluten free meat!!!!

Zero complaints on the donair—could easily feed two people and likely still have leftovers!! The only things I can critique: the dough is a bit thick for my preference, but still SO good!! If I got the works again, I’d say little to no mushrooms because it almost took away from how good the pizza was!! And I understand now why people order extra butter on the GF’s (see dough comment above). But otherwise, it was gooey, cheesy goodness which I love!!

The cold leftovers were almost better than when fresh & hot!!

All around, definitely worth going...

If you like your donair for the meat, then this place has your priorities in check. If you believe you should be able to hand-hold your donair to eat it, then you might be disappointed. Even if you're hungry, a small could most likely satisfy two people. If not, a medium will. Ordering a donair here will get you a plate that appears to basically be meat with sauce, onions and tomatoes. You'll wonder where the bread is, but while you did get one, forget about it - it's done what it can to absorb some of what covers the bottom of the plate, but I'm sure that eating it will result in gastrointestinal complications unknown to science. Besides, if you think that you could make it to the bottom of the plate, either you're well into your training for an eating contest, are a regular here and already know what you're getting yourself into (and could probably compete in an eating contest), or just plain naïve. The saucy meat is grilled very well and has lots of flavour. In short, if you've just arrived on the Dartmouth side and are looking for a way to initiate your GI tract, this place is recommended. If you're looking for a healthy choice and want to punish yourself for thinking like that, this place is also recommended for that as well. Just don't expect to hold your donair...
