I have been a supporter of Good Stock since they opened. It has been very cool to see their restaurant evolve over the short time it has been open, getting better and better over time. The beautiful thing is whenever they make a slight change to the menu, not one part of the vision or vibe is altered.
The staff are all genuinely amazing people who are passionate about making delicious plant-based food that is affordable; it is blatantly obvious when you experience the atmosphere, chat with the staff, and enjoy the food. Chef Michelle is creative with her menu and somehow manages to impart incredible amounts of flavour into every one of her dishes. To be honest, there is not one thing I have tried that I didn't like.
To give you an idea of how much my wife and I love their food, we had Good Stock cater our wedding - and everyone raved about it. Consider that our wedding guest list was filled with roughly 95% meat eaters. Huge win!
We also frequently get their take-and-bake items when we are not feeling like cooking or if we are super crunched for time and need meals for the week. Decent price for a weeks worth of lunches and dinners!
Some items to make SURE to try (depending on if they have them on their menu at the time you are reading this): queso dip mushroom stroganoff donair caesar salad brownies smoothies chili curries lentil loaf burgers mushroom soup corn chowder chickpea barley soup loaded taco bowl .......I think you get the point. You could literally walk up to the menu board, point at something with your eyes closed, and there is a 99% chance you will enjoy whatever you get. Took 1% off for those who naturally don't like certain things (ex: if you don't like chili, there is a 1% chance you will still not like their chili, but a 99% chance you will be converted).
Long story short - if you're reading this review contemplating going to Good Stock....go to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe decided to try this place on a random whim from doing an online search for a vegetarian restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised! When we first got the to the restaurant we were aabit apprehensive as the area it is in seems a bit dodgy but the nearby buildings are undergoing renos so hopefully the future will be bright!
The restaurant itself has a very unique feel. Modern decor with a touch of the sense of being in a garden - we loved it! We ordered at the counter. I had the pad Thai and she had the mushroom stroganoff. Both dishes came with a side of soup, at the time I passed on my corn chowder as I wasn't feeling too soupy (a decision I regretted after trying just a small spoonful of hers - it was delicious!!).
Being accustomed to spicier and meatier pad Thai dishes from other places, I did find it a little lacking - I was sad to not have siriracha as a hot sauce option. It also felt as if it needed a wedge of lime. Still, the dish had great flavors and it did hit the spot.
Her mushroom stroganoff on the other was absolutely brilliant! Totally filled with delicious flavours and textures! It reminded of childhood and having a hot plate of this dish on cold winter days. If you've read my other reviews, you probably know by now how picky she is with her food - she had absolutely no complaints at all and begged for us to return again soon so she could have more. I know I'll be really tempted to get this dish next time!
Great food, good portions and reasonable pricing. I cannot wait to hit this place up again for another...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām a meat and potatoes kind of girl, generally, and Iām open to new ideas. Moreso, Iām wanting to support small businesses. Being that this one is in my neighborhood, I took my kids and didnāt tell them it was all vegetarian. My son and I had the burger and my daughter had the Mac n cheese. I paid $57 and we ate very little. The portions are HUGE. The bun was a dry crumbling mess and I was overwhelmed by all the flavors. I guess I feel like the chef was trying too hard. A friend of mine feeds me roasted tofu and sweet potatoes cooked with coconut milk, itās simple, and so good, and good for you. My suggestion is that less is more. Besides the food, the lady there felt bad we didnāt like the food and gave us cookies. Those were pretty good. As far as the cost, I think for what it is, itās probably priced fairly but for what I can buy at No Frills next door, I donāt think Iāll go back. I am telling all my friends to try it though, because maybe I just have dead taste buds. I do hope to see this business successful, our area is quickly turning over and having this restaurant might be a little ahead of its time but maybe just in time....
