Leopoldās has always been one of my favourite spotsāmy boyfriend and I have been many times, and itās where we had our first date, so it holds a lot of sentimental value for us. The food is consistently great, and until recently, weād always had positive experiences.
Unfortunately, our most recent visit (May 9th) was extremely disappointing due to the service we received. From the moment we arrived with two friends, our server (younger with pink hair) seemed visibly annoyed and reluctant to seat us. When I asked for a paper menu because my phone had died, she responded curtly with, āthatās why I have them right here,ā in a tone that was noticeably cold and dismissive.
There was an issue with my boyfriendās ID, which we understood and didnāt contestāhe left immediately and politely to retrieve his wallet. However, the way the server addressed it felt unnecessarily harsh. Instead of calmly explaining the legal requirement, she told us quite snappily that āitās illegal to serve you,ā which felt accusatory and uncomfortable.
While he was gone, she came to our table and warned us that if he was āout of controlā when he returned, she would refuse service. This was completely uncalled forāhe had left quietly and respectfully, and there had been no cause for that kind of remark. I reassured her that there wouldnāt be an issue, and there wasnāt. We remained polite and friendly the entire time, even though we felt unwelcome.
Later, when she finally returned to take our drink orders (after about 20 minutes), we all asked for water. Her response was, āthatās what I was asking, but okay,ā again in a very off-putting tone. It felt like she was going out of her way to be passive-aggressive.
By the end of the meal, it seemed she realized how her behaviour had come across, as she made a sudden effort to be overly friendly while bringing the bill. Despite that, the experience had already left a bad taste, and for the first time ever, none of us felt comfortable leaving a tipāwhich is not something I do lightly.
I understand everyone has off days, and I donāt take writing negative reviews lightly either, but this interaction genuinely ruined the experience for us. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as Leopoldās is a place Iāve always loved and want to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI will start by saying that the service was friendly. We were greeted immediately when we came in, and our waitress was also kind. However, our visit was short and we didnt get an opportunity to try what we were hoping would be delicious food. Unfortunately the friendly staff aren't that interested in a comfortable experience for everyone. There was a table almost directly beside us - They were very obviously very drunk and they continued serving them. (Which I find WILD considering another review said they were kicked out after 3 drinks) They were screaming ridiculous things across the restaurant the entire time. (Asking for viagra then the one guy screaming sh!t like he's a champ in bed) When I say yelling I mean he was YELLING. Also just literally yelling for no reason. The staff didn't do anything, so my husband asked them to be a little more quiet. They started getting hostile and obviously we left. We didnt bother to complain to the staff because they watched this happen, and nothing was done. So it was pointless. These people were yelling things at us as we left and not one staff said a thing to them the entire time. Bar, tavern, pub whatever. Doesn't matter what it is, you really shouldn't be letting customers act that way in your establishment. Pretty sure the rule of thumb is if someone is obviously drunk you are supposed to cut them off. It's just unfortunate that the staff just completely ignored it because I'm sure it would have been an otherwise good experience. My review likely would have been better if the staff even attempted to ask them to quiet down or something. The solution didn't even have to be kicking them out. However, the impression is that as long as people are spending large amounts on alcohol doesn't really matter what they are doing, and the other customers can leave if they don't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt was great checking out the new edmonton location as we often go to the location on Strathcona This location definitly has better parking lol and the atmosphere was quieter and less busy.
We got the the pulled pork sandwich, the chicken burger of the month (Korean fried chicken sandwhich) and the extreme pickle popcorn chicken poutine.
Pulled pork 3/5 mainly bc the bun as a whole was soggy especially the bottom and felt it sub par compared to what we are ause to at the Strahcona location BUT still delicious non the less!
Korean chicken sandwhich 3/5 3 of 5 mainly bc it did have ALOT of flavors and was hard to enjoy all the deliciousness that this burger contained IMO. Good amount of spice too. Very delicious just make sure you have something to drink with it as the flavors can be a little much for someone like myself lol delicious!!
Extreme pickle popcorn chicken poutine 5/5!!!! My gosh, I like a good poutine and the mrs. Doesn't like poutines very much BUT she and I loved this one. Definitly if your a pickle/dill pickle fan and like poutines this one takes the cake and full of that pickle flavor with your standard poutine and even the popcorn chicken was delicious!!
Our server was very friendly and attentive as well.
