The Bend Lounge — Restaurant in Edmonton

I am incredibly disappointed with The Bend's management and their lack of response to a racist incident that occurred on November 9th, 2024 involving a blonde server wearing a white tank top and black leggings that night.

Throughout the night, our server was incredibly rude and dismissive to our table in comparison to other guests. She seemed annoyed whenever we wanted to order and would walk away before we even finished our sentences. When our food arrived, she would just throw the plates onto the table without any communication and was huffy the whole time. This is in stark contrast to her behaviour with other tables at the lounge and she was noticeably more friendly and chattier with the other patrons.

We were the only table at the lounge with non-white guests. Therefore, it's a bit difficult to ignore the difference in treatment that we received. Even when we were paying for the bill at the end, our server would only acknowledge the one white member in our party. When we tried to get her attention to ask if we did something to offend her to deserve this absurd treatment, she just briskly walked away without even giving us a chance to say anything.

The service we received here was abhorrent and disgusting. I am ashamed that I have patronized this lounge for as long as I have. I have reached out to management MULTIPLE times to discuss this incident and they have not responded to me once. Having just moved into the area, my wife and I decided to try the "Local watering hole". The location is super convenient and their staff is simply amazing. Super friendly and chatty. Their food value is incredible. All of the food we tried has been large portions and a really decent price considering the increased in everything these days.

The only downside is that, in my opinion, the actual bar is too small. Not the entire seating area, just the bar. They seem to always have 1 table reserved for staff which I find odd. I could not find a table to sit at last night for myself and my wife because all of the 4 person tables were being occupied by mainly 1 person and the bar can only accommodate approximately 8 people.

A good portion of the bar is set aside for VLT's. From a bar management and cash income point of view, I understand that. However, when I tried to find a table last night and couldn't I did notice that no one was using the VLT's at the time. The 3-4 times we've been here we've only ever seen 2 people concurrently using the 8-10 VLT's.

Again, in my opinion, removing half the VLT's to open up more tables would not only generate more revenue, but create a better atmosphere for those seated around the bar. Perhaps moving the VLT's to the back of the bar near the pool table would be a...

I sauntered in, drunk as a wee skunk, as I have 1000 times before. I was taking out money to try my hand at the VLT's, as I do most weeks. I went to take some cash out of the ATM, as I have done a million times. I was swaying, left and right. Jonsin to hit that spin... I grabbed my cash from the ATM. Maybe a little too quickly... I looked down and noticed that I was short $60. I stumbled up to the bar. I was talking to the waitress that I have gotten to know well enough. I explained that I may have lost $60 while withdrawing cash. She told me that she wasn't going to help me. She grabbed the kitchen manager... who came out and told me to call the ATM company. They weren't going to help me. I have come to the bend, day in and day out... for special occasions. For regular occasions. I have brought friends. Spent a ton of money... and they wouldn't even care to help? Even take a look? If this is how the treat their regular customers, I'd hate to be a non-regular customer. That will be the last time I ever spend at the bend. The last dime I ever spend there.

It was definitely my fault. The cash was still in the machine... but the attitude that I was met with... You won't be friends at the bend. You're just a customer... but I won't be a customer...
