Our Go to Pub in Fredericton - If there is one sure restaurant style that survives the ebbs and flows of food trends it is the "pub" and Snooty Fox is no exception. Lively atmosphere, great selection of beers, friendly services and wide selection of foods, including the comfort foods that keep folks coming back.
The other thing about pubs is that they are generally open later and, therefore, you can be sure of getting food at almost any hour. Most of the other restaurants only cater to the suppertime clientele (4:30-6:30). Being with someone from Spain where restaurants there only think about opening at 9:00pm, its a little hard to find restaurants in Fredericton that match that rhythm. So on Friday, we started our search at about 8:00. Finding a series of locked doors, we just went where we knew we could find the atmosphere and food that met the Friday night criteria.
As mentioned, Snooty has a wide selection of offerings and you are guaranteed to find something for even the most finicky eater. Normally I default to some of my favourites, such as the calamari, which are awesome with the hot banana peppers mixed in.
Wings are also always a default. I love hot. So whenever I am in a new restaurant, I always try there hottest, normally called "Suicide" versions. Normally, these are never hot enough for me and I come away a little disappointed. Not so at Snooty Fox. There suicide version lives up to the name. Be warned. You will be sweating and snotting through this whole meal! Make sure to ask for lots of paper towels and hand wipes.
So in the past, I always look at the classic pub food they serve but always opt for something else. Last Friday, not so. I saw the Shepard's Pie and just had a hankering to give it a try. I did opt for a salad instead of the tempting Fat Friday fries. (Fat Friday is just my name for the not so healthy foods you opt for at the end of a long stressful week). Snooty's offering was a scoops of mashed potatoes on top of ground beef/ gravy and corn and then covered with gravy. I thought Shepard's Pies were traditionally baked a little but not this one. However, it was quite tasty. The Greek salad was a nice compliment.
We ordered a bottle of wine to accompany this. A Tom Gore Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the better offerings here. It is a nice wine that you can count on being a good choice, especially if you are not a wine connoisseur. I was recently on a Staycation in New Brunswick and actually decided to order this wine in each restaurant.
It was interesting when I looked at my bills and saw how much gouging some restaurants give you on wines. I seem to recall the Tom Gore was about mid $20s in the liquor store. At Italian by Design in Saint John it cost $42 which was great for a restaurant of this quality. Snooty was in the $52 range, Algonquin Inn in St. Andrews was $62 and the Delta Fredericton topped the list at $80 a bottle. Honestly, gouging by 400% is excessive in my opinion. Drink water in places like that and don't give them the satisfaction.
Anyway you can't ever go wrong with the Snooty Fox. Give a thumbs up if this review worked for...
Read moreSnooty was a place I frequently used to attend- however, the service, long time ago was bad and the food was not worth the experience. With that said, I decided to give it a second try tonight and the service failed again. The meal was a good one- however the waitress made me leave with a bitter taste. A wrongful charge / insert of data in their machine made me question the bill (once already paid for) and I inquired the waitress. Instead of admitting to the error (regardless of what was punched in) she could’ve made the experience a pleasant one by assuming the charge of merely $4 dollars on a drink. However, she preferred to come talk to my entire party- table and check if they wanted the “4 dollars back”. Customer service is not in nickel- and-diming the client ... but in making the experience a good one. Least to say - my friends were embarrassed, I was made to look like a crazy person for inquiring about $4 dollars, and least to say we didn’t get the money back since obviously it seemed “petty” to do so.
Again - another disappointing time. Again, the food, although good, is not worth the service ....
Sorry to the app lovers out there - I would not recommend Snooty Fox. I’ve lived here for 12 years and I still, would rather pay more money at any other pub or restaurant than experience this service again. It’s really too bad that people are afraid to voice their opinion when there is bad service - it just justifies attitude and the continuance of bad service in...
Read moreDuring my visit, the place was packed but as soon as I asked for a menu a waiter found us a booth. It's a bit of a small place divided by all the booths. We started with some drink as they have a pretty good selection of IPAs. I ordered the Snooty Combo #2 which is basically a sample platter. There were cheese sticks, curly fries, cactus fries, a few other things and various sauces to accompany everything. The food arrived fast. It was hot and good after spending an evening at a concert with much alcohol consumed. We washed everything down with another round of drinks and then asked for the bill. Don't expect to eat hear for under $25/person, however the portions were big enough that we all went back to the hotel with some leftovers. I finished the beer and fries and brought the rest to my room for a late night snack. I look forward to...
