Stopped in for lunch on this restaurant’s first day of opening so naturally expected a few hiccups! I would hope this review serves as a positive learning tool for the operators of the restaurant as I found it had potential, but some things could be better. Once we figured out which door to use to enter, we waited a few uncomfortable minutes to be seated despite it being obvious we were inside and waiting to be looked after. Restaurant did not have any lights on inside, so was quite dim during our meal despite sitting in the front window. The fixtures (like flooring) from the old restaurant located in this space do not appear to have been changed so this restaurant does not feel fresh and modern. The pitcher of water brought to us was almost not drinkable, it was borderline warm. We also did not receive any cutlery other than one spoon each which made it difficult to eat saucy items once the naan was gone. I am a sucker for a good daal makhni and it is the first thing I order at any “new to me” Indian restaurant. I loved the spice level of mine - I would say it’s about a medium. However, I found the dish to be salty for my liking and the lentils were very slightly undercooked. I still ate it all - but it was not the best I ever had or even the best in Fredericton. My friend ordered butter chicken. I tried a bit of her sauce - it was also salty and had huge chunks of julienned raw ginger mixed throughout which kind of ruined that creamy sauce I expected to taste. The coriander naan was ok but it was a little thin and so was a little too burnt on edges for my liking - couldn’t use as a daal scoop. Upon checkout I was happy there was some candied fennel seeds in a dish at the cash to cleanse my palate. Was a little put off when I asked for a spoon (first customers, remember) and the lady grabbed a spoon from under a set of keys on the counter. Will certainly try a few things on the menu that caught my eye. I am a little dubious about some reviews on this platform - this restaurant’s Instagram account appears to follow people with the same last name as the reviewers and they all appear to have had a significantly better experience than me - I wanted to reflect on the experience before rushing into a review. I will certainly visit again to try the Rajma (I love kidney beans!) and write another review or update this...
Read moreSo, this is going to be a long review: It's better to have a few really well-made staple dishes opposed to many, many options. Then throw in a special dish now and then. And then change it up seasonally. I couldn't even imagine the food cost for so many dishes. It's actually really overwhelming, and it takes a while to figure out what you want. This brings me to my 2nd issue There is going to be a wait. You're going to wait for menus, drinks, food, cheques. In theory, it should take 10-20 mins to get the main course on the table. We waited significantly longer. When she took the order, she asked for spice level. I am 100% sure that my 11 year old child got the spiciest. Even though I stated a couple of times that he needed the mildest. Now, we aren't strangers to spicy food as a family, but my youngest can only handle so much. Thankfully, I paid extra for yogurt and naan. Which brings me to another issue. Usually, I don't complain too much about the size of portions, but these are Mega size. I don't understand charging 2.00 for rice or Naan. Especially when you get a huge bowl of rice and healthy portions of Naan. And it may just be me, but it's too much food. You may be better suited to serve a smaller portion of chaat or curry with a smaller side of rice than charge for Naan. Honestly, 2 people could easily eat one order and be satisfied. Now, to the actual review of the food. Unfortunately, it was not great, and I usually refrain from posting negative reviews, but we tried each other's food, and they all tasted the same just with different proteins. And the spice in some of them were so overpowering that we couldn't taste or appreciate the flavor. Overall, it was just really disappointing. I really hope they iron out the fine details and...
Read moreReview based on my latest experience- Best Amritsari kulcha chole with masala lassi in New Brunswick. Thank you for such a good meal. The quantity is good too. Adding photo for reference.
My last experience was good but that time it was just us and one more table filled. I guess thats the reason I got the good service. This time around, the service was worst they shouldn’t let us in if they can’t provide service. I am still waiting for food and it’s been an hour already. They told us it will be 25 mins and I waited 50 mins without saying anything.
Tried Paneer tikka and chicken tikka for starters. I would say paneer tikka was dry. Chicken tikka was good. For quantity idea check the pics. For main we tried Paneer lababdar and tawa chaap as meal with garlic naan. Both the main dishes were delicious. I haven’t had such good flavours in New Brunswick.
For drinks we had lemon soda and it was good The only let down was Paneer tikka but overall good experience. Would say one more thing, I tried calling the restaurant so many times to reserve a table the call goes to Voicemail and is not available. We did a walk-in and found the table but would ask to update the...
