Everything you need to know about ordering at Aylmer BBQ! (And what to do when something goes wrong!)
For starters, the manager is the one that orders and packs the food in the kitchen - the leader of the takeout and delivery system. That said, if something went wrong with your order, explain to the person who is on the phone with you! They are just as capable of handling the situation. The managers cannot take the phone for the reasons stated above (as well as some potential language barriers, as they mostly speak english). If you are adamant about talking to a manager, they can return your call after rush hour time!
2 -- If an item is missing from your order, PLEASE call and let them know asap. They will either send it to you as soon as they can, or give you a credit for next time. You cannot call a week later and expect a discount if you had never told them there was an issue with your order (or else everyone could claim the same thing...).
3 -- ordering on Fridays: Please note that all places are terribly busy on Friday nights, and I must admit, Fridays are not Aylmer Bbq's strong suit. Unfortunately, mistakes are most likely to occur on Fridays, which is just as frustrating to the staff as it is to the customers. Issues regarding call-backs for the prices are more difficult, since there is only one phone operator and 2 lines. Please be mindful that call-backs are very difficult because the lines do not stop ringing (surely you must have experienced the busy lines when trying to place your order). If you want to know the price and they did not have the chance to call you back, call them! Again, calling is DIFFICULT because of the influx of calls, all they can do is PICK UP calls. Delivery times issue between 1-1.5 hrs.
4 -- ordering Chinese food: You might or might not be familiar with Aylmer BBQ's extensive Chinese food menu. If you want a combination plate but don't know which number, simply inform your waitress (or phone operator) what you would like in the combination plate! Remember that is staff is required to know the contents of each plates, so if you don't, that's okay! It is much better to simply tell your server what you want in a plate, as opposed to ordering the wrong one and having it thrown out. Some changes can be done with the combination plates, just remember, ask! Even things such as the difference between the almond guy ding and the almond soo guy, if you are not sure which is which, you know what to do. ;)

Read moreI grew up eating at this place. So I ordered from Aylmer BBQ looking forward to eating their General Tao Chicken. For years, I would recommend this dish to people. Coming back to town, I decided to order from here.
Wow, I was extremely disappointed!
The white rice was undercooked, the batter on the chicken was very wet & soft, and the sauce was not the same tasty amazing sauce it was years ago. It seemed as though the rice was from yesterdays leftover - cold & dry, and the general tao chicken was left sitting in the sauce for hours.
I decided to call to let them know that I was unsatisfied with their food because it's not fair to pay for a product or service and not receive exactly what you wanted and expected.
This is called having great customer service. First, you need to own up to your mistake, which they never apologized. Only made excuses! Second, you offer your customer who pays your bills three options. 1- Refund your client fully, 2- Offer to take another order, or 3- Give a credit for the next time. Again, this is called having great customer service to keep your loyal customers happy and satisfied.
So, let's look at what they offered me. Aylmer BBQ offered me to take another order so I did. I asked for egg rolls. Now, let's look at how much the egg rolls cost $1.45 each and the general tao chicken cost $12.90. How many egg rolls fit in a general tao chicken? The answer is 8.9 egg rolls, round it up to 9. Guess how many they offered to give me? 5 egg rolls
What this means is they stole money from a single mother and a full-time student - $6!!!! If I knew they were this desperate for my $6, I would have offered them more.
The point is about treating your customers with high value because we are the people that make it possible for restaurants to make money, to stay in business, and pay for your lifestyle. When you bite the hand that feeds you, it says a lot about their mission as restaurant owners.
I will never return! Not because the food was bad but because the customer service was poorly managed and the problem was not resolved. I did receive my five egg rolls but I'm still not satisfied because the solution was not fair. They got their food back and I was left overpaying for a...
Read moreMy stepdad likes this place because it reminds him of the chinese food he ate where he grew up in Nova-Scotia.
I ordered a lot of chinese take-out from this place. I was extremely disappointed.
They have an online ordering system where the prices are much higher than what you would pay by calling. They told me to call next time, because I could have saved 20$ by calling. Why even have an online ordering system if that's the case? It's like they are doing it on purpose. Not to mention that they were not even aware an order was placed when we went to pick it up. Just remove the online ordering system, it's not working for you.
The prices do not justify the quantities. Everything came in small tin plates (about the size of your hand) or small bowls and cost around 20$ for each plate and bowl. The only thing that was worth the prices was the combo plates, which was around 15$ for a large tin plate. The amount you get is very small for the price you pay.
The food itself was not great. It wasn't bad, exactly. It's edible. Honestly kind of bland, and everything tasted pretty much the same. Not only were the quantities very small, but the quality was also quite poor. Yet another reason why the prices make no sense.
The only reason I'm giving two stars is because when I called them to complain about how senseless the prices were for the quantity of food, they delivered a second order of everything to my house for free. In a sense, I feel like this speaks to the fact that they are aware that they're charging way too much for what they give. Or they really do try to keep their customers satisfied.
Either way, I will never order from here again. There is a restaurant in Gatineau called Wa Hing Li Ho with excellent prices for the quantity and quality of the food. I would rather make the drive there than order...
