First of all, it was 10 degrees and they did not even open the heaters... Literally everyone was freezing. The food was cold withing minutes. I could feel my fingers getting numb. How can you advertise "open terrace" and operate your business as usual but you can't even provide the most basic amenities. I don't understand who from the management thought this was acceptable.
As for the food, me and my girlfriend ordered the steak with fries, the beef tartare, the chicken wings, and the rosé.
The steak was cooked very well but it lacked seasoning. I enjoyed it, although the lack of seasoning was very frustrating. The waitress did not even bring out the salt and pepper. And honestly I shouldn't have to ask for them either. It's just like a steak knife, or cheese on spaghetti, or soy sauce with pho. The waitress should just bring it out with the plate.
The fries were undercooked and not seasoned at all. Very soggy and bland. For almost 40 bucks I expected more. I've had better fries from McDonald's.
The wine that we had, the cerber rose, is just some generic stuff that is overpriced. I think there were three or four choices for the red wine, and all of them were out of stock except for this la cage branded one. Once again, I don't understand how the management thought this was acceptable.
The wings were good, although I was surprised at the size of them when they first brought them out (pretty small). Nevertheless, they tasted good.
The tartare was fantastic. Mixed with the provided bread crackers and the sauce. I think that was the highlight of the whole meal. We enjoyed it very much. I would recommend.
All in all, an ok experience tarnished by the freezing temperature and the lack of heating. I expected better service at this price point. Minus 1 for the lack of seasoning, minus 1 for the lack of heating, and minus 1 for the wine (and the lack of...
Read moreI had such an amazing experience at La Cage in Gatineau on March 19th at around 8pm! This was my first time ever going out alone for a girls’ night, and as a young woman, I’ve always been hesitant about being out by myself at night. My boyfriend encouraged me to take some time for myself, and while he checked in on me, he honestly didn’t have to—because the staff here made me feel so incredibly safe and welcomed!
From the moment I walked in around 8 PM, the hostess was so kind and welcoming, and my waiter was absolutely wonderful. I wish I had remembered his name because he truly made my night! The service was attentive and warm, and he made sure I felt comfortable the entire time. At one point, a gentleman approached me—I’m sure he meant no harm—but my waiter kept an eye on the situation from a distance and even checked in a couple of times to make sure I was comfortable and wasn’t being bothered. That level of care meant so much to me, especially being new to the area and not speaking much French.
On top of the amazing service, the food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect for a relaxing night out. I will definitely be coming back—not just alone, but with my partner and friends as well. Huge thank you to the team at La Cage for making my first solo night out such a positive and memorable experience!
Besides, the staff seem so close and supportive and I admire...
Read moreAnother place where I want to give more positive review, but can't. We went there twice (the night they opened and a month after) and both times we were extremely disappointed. The service is great, waiters are friendly and the staff at the front door welcoming (they even open you the door).
Where it gets complicated it's with food. The food is good, but the time to receive your plates is really too long, they messes up our orders several times, I waited 20 minutes to have my beer (it's a beer, you just have to pull the lever and pour it into the glass). The first time the manager paid for our order because they had a problem with their new ordering system on a tablet. That's why we went a second time and it was the same problem, but a little bit better.
The location is great, located in the Le Plateau sector. The parking lot is just large enough, but if it gets too crowded you'll have a hard time finding a spot. Forget going there by wheelchair, they don't have a place to access the front door from the parking lot. Unless I didn't see a ramp, you have to go back on the sidewalk from the street, then go to the far end of the restaurant then come back to the other far end to enter the building. It's just...
