Cantine Ben La Bedaine — Restaurant in Granby

Americans beware! They don't accept credit cards, and they refuse to use American debit cards, only Canadian ones. They took a $100 American dollars bill from and unsuspecting person in our party and they didn't even give a penny in exchange (the current rate should have given her $133 Canadian so a minimum of $120 would have been reasonable). When we told them about this later, their answer was "we are not a Bank" and mocked us when we said it wasn't correct to do that. It is obvious they hard absolutely no remorse about what they did, and rather enjoyed it. We were there to compare their food versus Cantine-O Max just down the street and this place lost by a mile. Their hamburger patties are very thin, so much so that my grand daughter who never ate more than a single big Mac at MC Donald asked for a second of their double patties burger because she was still hungry. I had one of those too and it was rather bland. The poutine was nothing to be impressed about, and all that opinion about the food I had already told someone before I found out about the $100 bill. So, the people to whom I told this event, they have already told me they will never go there again. Beside, what kind of restaurant doesn't accept...

Don't let the mass of cars or customer's lined uo to order turn you away from Ben's. If you've got a craving for a poutine, hotdog, cheesburger, bouche-trou, or ice cream then Ben's got you covered. The service is friendly and quick and you'll be elbow deep in a poutine in no time. Ben's offers you a casual, fun and friendly atmosphere for the family and is a great place to stop before or after heading to Grandby Zoo which is no more than five minutes away. Now, I'm a fan of everything Ben has to offer and the prices are definitely reasonable and in line with other cantines you can find. It is hard to knock anything Ben has to offer, however, I will say there poutine is not my absolute favourite; the sauce for their poutine, in my opinion, is missing the depth of flavour I'm able to find at other cantines. There is little that matches up to their Bourre Bedaine (double cheeseburger) however and is a must get. Oh, and speaking of a must get, if you still have room for dessert, their ice cream is absolutely delicious and not to mention the portion sizes are quite generous so consider going a smaller cone...

I may be brown, but I know what great poutine is when i consume one. No franchise can beat this canteen. It's cozy et tres Quebecois! I just love this place. I used to eat out here after my hard workout at the gym. Almost every day. Their gravy, and the cheese curds!!! Omg, you can hear your teeth munching on it in joy... East or West, Chez Ben Onz bou la baden is the best! :)
