This hotel is an Econolodge. It is not a five-star hotel. It has plusses and minuses. On the plus side, it's reasonably priced, clean, comfortable, there's an outdoor pool, free wifi and our room was supplied with both a fridge and microwave. There's a patio door opening to a balcony, free parking and a breakfast included. There is an elevator for those with mobility issues, but I don't think any of the rooms are barrier free. The continental breakfast is currently unavailable due to the pandemic, so instead each guest is provided with a paper bag containing a muffin, banana, yogurt, boiled egg and juice box. I don't like eggs or bananas, and I'm trying to lose weight, so the offerings weren't thrilling. It's a very short drive to the Granby Zoo and offers a package for a family of four for hotel and zoo.
On the minus side: the bathroom sink is minuscule and smaller than could fit in the space. There are no towel racks at child height, leaving to lots of towels falling to the floor. The wifi is spotty and can be dropped without notice for seconds to minutes and should not be relied on. The tv has cable, but it too is unreliable and prone to breaking up and stopping altogether. The pool area is run down and several safety rails have been removed and not replaced. The lounge chair I choose to sit on had no screws holding the foot rest to the seat and promptly fell off when I put weight on it. The air conditioner in the room was tiny, ancient and needed to be cranked to maximum to cool the room to 20 degrees on a mild summer day. I would have opened the patio doors to bringin cooler air, but the balcony crosses the length of the rooms and is accessible by outside stairs, meaning anyone could wander in if the door were left open.

Read moreI recently stayed at the Hotel Principal from August 14-15, 2021. Here are some points I will share from our stay:||- First I will say that the staff is awesome and great service||- We rented two rooms side by side on the main floor, one single and one double||- Check in is only at 4:00 and check out is noon. One room was not completely prepared and had fruit flies and one room had used masks left in it||- Rooms were average but no complaints, they have updated nicely but still need some work||- WIFI is offered but does not work. Had one staff member tell me it doesn't always work since the router cannot handle the usage and another one check that I was using the proper information as she informed me it always works however we had none...||- The walls are VERY thin and you hear EVERYTHING. We had a bowling alley on top of us with three young kids running, banging and screaming all night and all morning and the rooms on either side were the same with kids running up and down the hallway the whole time and having a very loud party in their room next to ours until past midnight with the staff not being able to reach them by knocking on their door or calling their room. We were told they are allowed until 10:00 PM and then the noise must stop or they risk having to pay a charge of $150 for excessive noise as per hotel policy. I do not wish ill on anyone however I do hope this was enforced (although I doubt it) and it really made our stay very unpleasant and we could not rest and relax or get much sleep.||- In conclusion, great family hotel for young kids. If you want rest and relaxation, not the place to go. Bring ear plugs and make sure you have a good data plan. Hope...
Read moreWe stayed two nights at this hotel. Had a room with two double beds and balcony overlooking the pool area. There is an unusual elevator to reach upper floors if required...sort of a dumbwaiter elevator. Room is basic and clean and had a fridge and microwave but eeek...no coffee maker. Breakfast is included in the rate and service starts at 6 a.m. so have to put clothes on for that first sip of caffeine. There is also a hot beverage dispenser in the lobby and a cup costs $2.00. There is also a vending machine for munchies and soft drinks. There was a flat screen t.v. in the room but we despite best efforts by us and the staff, we couldn't get the cable to work. The room has a desk and chair as well as cupboard and bench. Wifi is available and password is posted at front desk. As mentioned, there is a dining lounge for breakfast which starts at 6 a.m. A brown bag is given to each traveller which contains a yogurt, banana, muffin, hard boiled egg and a juice box. The washroom is small but effective and usual toiletries are provided as well as a sufficient number of towels and a hair dryer. There is nothing fancy about this hotel but it is family friendly and economical. Lots of children enjoying the pool and adults using the provided chairs and picnic tables. Staff are quite helpful and friendly. There is shopping nearby and many restaurants. Major attraction in the area is Granby Zoo and this is a great spot it seems for families to rest up before the day with...
