They were fresh out of chocolate ice cream so I ordered the Vanilla swirl (Vanilla + Espresso). On the first bite it tasted ok but I knew something was off. Very subtle taste of espresso. After a few bites I wanted to throw up. It tasted like palm oil. I could not finish it and it went straight into the garbage. I have had good vegan ice cream before and this is the worst. I asked the staff a few questions if the ice cream is home made. They only mentioned that it is ordered from somewhere and did not know the ingredients in it. The staff was lost when asked questions. Hmmm? Is there something to hide? The ice cream should taste good for the amount of money they charge. Reading the responses from the owner to other reviews, it seems like they cannot take constructive criticism. If you are not open to criticism then you should not be open for business. Such a black mark on small towns and small businesses.
Edit - My "constructive criticism" as mentioned above is that the staff should be aware of ingredients and where it is ordered from. Also, Chicago Vegan Foods has a 3.8 rating on google. I would suggest give another vegan foods company a try. Maybe one that is...
Read moreWas in the area having some lunch and saw the Flurples’ store front which looked really nice so decided to give the ice cream a try. I got the strawberry shortbread sundae, boyfriend got the Oreo root beer milkshake. We both thought the the ice cream tasted off. We ended up eating half of it and throwing the rest out and was pretty disappointed given the high price point. It wasn’t until after reading the other reviews here on google that we realized it was vegan ice cream, that explains it. There should really be a sign in the store front stating the ice cream is vegan - we didn’t see any indication of this. I wouldn’t have purchased any products if I knew this ahead of time. I’m sure if you’re used to vegan food it may taste really good. But as a non-vegan I could taste the difference and it wasn’t the pleasant flavour I was...
Read moreFlurples has been a go-to place for my girlfriend and me for years. It’s really great to have a vegan ice cream place in town, especially right after grabbing a bite from Tucos across the street. However, we went today, and we experienced a huge change compared to what we were expecting. The ice cream products that they’re using have been changed dramatically, and they’re nowhere near as delicious as they used to be. I can appreciate the need to change to a less expensive product to keep prices the same in the present economy, but I’d much rather spend a few dollars more per item to get the superb product that we’re used to than spend what we did today to get what we got. Will still go to Tucos and Beards in the future, but will be hesitant to return to Flurples as long as they continue to use the ice cream products that they...
