Staff was friendly, the coffee was good and the bakery items looked delicious. However, I was visiting from the U.S. and they said I couldn’t use my credit card which was a first. They said debit or cash then would only take Canadien debit. Then a woman who I presume was the owner although she didn’t identify herself was very rude about my service dog who though he was wearing his credentials, I was asked to put a full vest on him. So I went to my car and put on his full vest which I do not believe is required even in BC. She accepted it but clearly was still not happy and tried to intimidate me with warnings of potential fines. Not a good beginning to my visit to Canada….
Update: from the BC gov website 8/2024, I think you need to get updated on your laws…and you were very rude
Certification under the GDSDA is voluntary. Valid guide and service dog teams exist outside of the GDSDA certification process. Persons with disabilities who rely on a guide or service dog that is certified with other authorities, or is not certified, have an equal right to access and use of public services and places and rental or strata housing, and are protected under the BC Human Rights Code.
Under the Guide Dog and Service Dog Act, certified dog and handler teams have the same rights as people not accompanied by dogs.
Provided the dog is well-behaved, a team cannot be denied access to:
Restaurants and cafes Buses and taxis Hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts All other businesses Any public place Strata bylaws and rental terms prohibiting or restricting pets do not apply to certified guide and...
Read moreFood & coffee are decent! However, .... staff adamantly demanded that we sanitize our hands with their “food grade” sanitizer before we were allowed to order anything. Then, in the half hour + that we were there, I observed that the staff prepared food & drinks, handled multiple cash transactions (taking cash/giving change) handed & touched food items back and forth without “sneeze guards” or wearing masks, between a steady stream of dozens of unrelated patrons that are standing side by side with absolutely no enforced “social distancing” and not once did any one of the workers ever wash or sanitize their own hands much less sanitize the tables or any other surface. I am aware that staff must follow govt imposed Covid “rules” in order to be open for business, and I am always pro-small business... I am aware also that there is not one thing about this encounter that followed any logic. .... then ... discarded masks laying on the back deck at the exit...
Read moreI don’t like to give negative reviews but I found the lady serving me to be inhospitable and unreasonable. I stopped in to pick up some baked goods as I was heading out on a 7 hour road trip. I spent $9 for my take out items and I politely asked for a cup of water for my dog in the car. The lady informed me they had a dog dish outside. I said I was willing to buy a cup as I wanted to have a cup of water in the car for my dog for the drive. She said it was going to cost me one dollar. I asked why the cup was so expensive (I don’t mind paying but I know a takeout cup doesn’t cost even close to a dolllar). She said it was because they had to pay for the cups and they try not to give them out. Again, I was willing to pay but not a dollar. That is absurd. In the end, I didn’t get the cup of water for my dog. Fyi- the baked goods were good, but I will...
