1yr update: I have since tried the donuts again and the dough seemed to have improved (I got them around same time last time around 11:30am) and I would say the glazed and the Boston cream are excellent. The cream inside was not sweet which is perfect but my only critique would be to cut down on the cornstarch or thickener as itâs almost too gummy and âfakeâ. The pursuit of perfection is a journey! Nearly there. Adding a star back! The cinnamon bun had good flavour but wasnât as soft as the donuts. Everything tasted better heated up a few seconds in the microwave though! But that Boston cream is darn near close to âfantasticâ! Excited to try again soon
I was really hoping to enjoy the donuts more than I did. The dough unfortunately is a bit too dense, wasnât fermented long enough or something. Also the oil temp was likely too low as these soaked up a lot of oil. The saving grace of all 3 was the cream filled which had a surprising berry compote in there. Again the base dough could be improved but the cream and berry compote helped round it out to be the best of the worst. Keep on working on that dough - itâs...
Read moreCute cafe, but I have had quite a few bad experiences here now. Every time I am there I have been treated poorly, dismissed while giving my order, and made to feel uncomfortable or out of place at this cafe⌠You can feel the obvious discomfort and racism from the staff when dealing with people of colour vs. not. Today I went back to give another chance and wasnât spoken to respectfully or addressed with as much comfort as I frequently see the rest of the Caucasian customers be addressed with. All in all, this is a cute cafe, mediocre pastryâs and drinks â not bad but not phenomenal, decent seating atmosphere; however, in order to truly feel welcome here and be treated like a part of the community it seems you must be Caucasian for acceptance at The Bakery of Flesherton Inc.
I give it 1 star, apart from the bad drinks and sub-par pastryâs, I believe cafes and local businesses should bring communities together, not sift out the different few and create backwards standards and division in our community for...
Read moreThis is a fantastic bakery that would be fetishized were it in Leslieville or the Junction. I would rate the butter tarts (the giant ones) as the best of Toronto, rivalled only by the "Fireweed" tart at Bannock/Canoe. The croissants are flaky buttery perfection, reminiscent of the old Clafouti on Queen West or Le Matin on Coady (RIP). The donuts are fantastic. Watch out Dominique Ansel! Ok, that might be hyperbole. But there's lots of other great stuff: crumble top muffins, danishes, brownies, and good coffee. Seriously, this is baking of a high order, a best kept secret since it's an hour and a half from Toronto. Grab a drink, some food, and sit by the window to watch all the trucks go by (really, there are trucks of every description on Highway 10!). You will be happier for it. Do you need an excuse to drive up to Flesherton? NO! Not if you love baking! But you could also hike the Bruce, take a dip at nearby Lake Eugenia, and see some fine waterfalls. This place...
