If I could give 0 stars I would. Went for breakfast on a Saturday morning. WAsn't too busy when we arrived. We sat down and waited for the server to come over and take our drink order. The restaurant got busier while we waited, and the served served EVERY TABLE BUT OURS. He finally came over after about 25 minutes to take our drink order and NEVER came back or even looked toward us again to take our breakfast order. Finally after he took the order of every table around us, even those that came in 40 minutes after us, we called him over and asked if we could order breakfast. It took him another 10 minutes to come back to take our order. We finally received our food, and my companion only received about 1/3 of what he had ordered. I finally went to the counter and commented that my friend hadn't gotten their order, and when the server went to check, he claimed my friend had ordered something completely different (which even if he had he still didn't receive what he should have with his order) and they said they would bring the remaining food. They brought out a plate of breakfast meats, and that was it. We never actually received our complete order. We also had to ask for more coffee/water several times, which took an insane amount of time to be brought. There was a rolling wall blocking the restroom when I tried to use it, and the washroom was not clean when I managed to access it.
I am so disappointed. About 5 years ago, my mother and I visited this place frequently because of the friendly, warm service, and nice food. I won't be back, and I think if this type of service continues not...
Read moreI ordered the Rockwood Burger (with bacon, avocado, cheese, and caramelized onion) and really enjoyed it. Heads up, it's messy to eat, so have several services on hand.
The atmosphere of the place has the potential to be quaint but feels crowded by stuff piled on the counters, and the washrooms are literally barricaded by a movable partition. If it's your first time in the restaurant, you'll have to ask the owner where they are because your chances of seeing them are slim.
What I strongly disliked were the owners' business practices. They felt underhanded. For example, I ordered a burger (which does not automatically come with fries, by the way), and when I got the bill, it was a price higher than that on the menu. When I asked why, he pointed to the bottom of the menu which had a line stating that beef products were an extra $1.50. This was not a last minute add-on taped to the menu because of a sudden price increase, it was printed with the rest of the menu. Why not just print the price you are really charging?
Also, when we got to the cash register, we were told that we had to pay with debit or cash. When I looked puzzled, the owner had a little 6 inch cardboard sign that he held up that read Debit or Cash as if we should have walked over to his register and read this before sitting down. A policy like that should be stated to the customer when they are giving an order.
In summary, the food is good. I would not return because I feel that he takes advantage of his customers, who could easily miss the small print that justifies his abnormal...
Read moreDon't stop at The Whistle Stop in Rockwood. Awful! I took my daughter there tonight as a treat out with mom while big sister is away for the night. Called before we went to confirm closing time of 6:30 and that dine in was okay. Yes to both. Arrived 15 minutes later, a few minutes after 5:00 to be told the kitchen was closed. They let us in anyway. Before we even sat down the guy said "What you want?" He didn't even give us a menu. I noticed a couple of them at the far end of the table. I quickly grabbed one and made the quickest decision I could while he stood there staring at me. He put our cans of pop on the table and our quesillidas arrived within 5 minutes. He puts our stuff down in front of us without a word and that was that. It wasn't very good and he forgot about the fries. We also ordered fish and chips to go. I flagged him over to get a take out container. I said thank you, he said nothing. I only knew to get up from the table to pay at the counter because the only other people there did that. I didn't get to see a bill. He rang us through and I didn't pay much attention as I was chatting with my daughter. On the drive home the amount charged clicked in my brain. $48 plus tip (which I regret giving) $48?? 2 quesillidas without fries, 2 cans of pop and a one piece fish and fries. Quesillidas with fries was listed $10.99, 2 drinks, 1 fish and fries was listed under $7. Totally doesn't add up. I'm really peeved and will never go back!! Ugh. Disgraceful. And its filthy in there. Table was clean but everything...
