Golden Fortune Restaurant 金福楼 — Restaurant in Halifax

My family and I ate here on Monday night and thank goodness we trusted the reviews because we totally enjoyed our meals. When you pull up, the restaurant doesn't look like much and actually a little run down but the dining area, even though simple, was clean and in good condition. We ordered the mixed plates which offer a great variety, good pricing and good portion size. Needless to say, our son was the only one that was able to finish his plate. The food was served quickly and piping hot. Our server was great, was able to answer all our questions and no communication barriers at all. We were the only ones eating in at the time but at least 6 people came in for takeout orders. Always a great sign that the food the restaurant is making is fantastic. It does appear the restaurant has a sectioned off area for larger and more private gatherings. They do offer a limited selection of beer, wine, shots teas and pop is served by the can. We placed an order online the computer charged me automatically after I didn't tip because we were picking up it was $19 . Food was excellent but the egg rolls were dry were like sawdust . UPDATE I did call the next day and spoke to the manager she said she would replace the egg rolls or even spring rolls which ever we preferred so tonight we were going to place another order I called she said she kind of remembered from my review so I asked for the manager who said she would replace them and now tonight didn’t want to with that being said I didn’t place a order and won’t ever again listen the food was fine but dried out egg rolls which make a meal complete with Chinese food ruins the meal . So they lost a customer and not just one when a promise is made by a business best to just get a refund when the food isn’t acceptable the promise to make it right and they don’t gives you a even worst taste in...

Hot and Sour soup was great. Unfortunately of the 6 dishes I've ordered from here, it was one of 2 that were remotely enjoyable.

General Tso eggplant is cooked well, but tastes doused in sugar; inedibly sweet. Honey garlic spare ribs again, prepared well but lean significantly more towards the honey than the garlic. Wonton soup is fine, but the wontons are overcooked and have no texture; tasting largely like (admittedly decently flavoured) mush. The broth is also surprisingly sweet. Crispy Ginger beef has good texture but -3 guesses here- also tastes like syrup.
