Service and atmosphere would be 5 star if the food was better. My husband and I, love the pubs. The Brassie Pub and Ye Old Squire are our go to places. (5 stars for both all around and Ye Old Squire is close to hear - 3 mins up the street).
We usually always order the stuffed Yorkies, or Yorkie Pies. Therefore, we know the quality when it comes to them and expect this when we visit.
We thought we would try coach and lantern. He had been there about 10 years ago. Used to go all the time, and was a favourite. I had never been, but looked very special. The reputation had me expecting the very best.
Unfortunetly, both of us were disappointed. They were the worst roast beef stuffed yorkies we had ever had. They seemed as though they were prepared then frozen. The dough tasted this way. The vegatables were definetly frozen before hand. We also thought the slime of mushrooms and onions was gross. Again, we have good quality competitors for comparison. We don't feel we will be coming back here as first impressions are everything.
(Our server was amazing, we still gave her a good tip as we normally would. It was not her fault. When she came to ask how the food was though, we should have spoken up on the spot. We didn't want to turn others off around us, as the place is very small and not as private if sitting close to others).
That's another point - we were seated at the worst table in the place. The little single table in the right hand corner in front of the bar.
Perhaps other food on the menu here is great and what holds the reputation and not their Yorkies. To be honest, I think they should remove theirs from the menu if they cannot make it better or do it justice.
If you'd like to try York Pies, (Mmmm) go to Brassie or Ol' Ye Squire. Just a heads up, last time we went to Brassie, our favorite meal was arranged oddly with mini yorkies instead of in the pie. Assuming they must had run out - although, Brassie has some new very yummy yorkie options to chose from.... including brisket yorkie. I think they had to up their game due to Ol Ye Squire and The Coach both serve Stuffed...
Read moreI had a craving for wings, and this place did not disappoint in that respect. However, the service was non-existent. When we arrived in the unfriendly entrance space, we were passed and noticed but not acknowledged by 3 staff people. Finally, someone greeted us with the subpar standard "for how many?"and we were seated. It's a very small establishment, and the table was in an awkward spot; kind of in the way of servers passage (we were bumped a couple of times) and our table was was unstable. We sat for several minutes, again, without being acknowledged by any staff. I really wanted wings. Otherwise, I would have left. I finally flagged someone down who was uncertain who our server was but took our order anyway. (I will mention that the 2 gentleman seated beside us had been visited by a server at least 4 times while we were not acknowledged at all.) Meanwhile, the bench table behind us became available (as did several other tables), so I asked to move back there. We were told that there was a reservation for that table in an hour so unfortunately we couldn't have that table. I persisted and said we've already ordered, I'm sure we'll be gone in time. I mentioned that the table we had was unstable, but the server didn't seem to care. What we assume was our food order came and sat on a tray holder within our vision, but no one brought it to us until someone looked at it puzzlingly and discovered it was ours. Clearly, we had not been taken ownership of by any server. As I said, the wings were really good. However, we won't be back because of the atmosphere and service. We could barely hear each other (sitting side by side on the bench) because of the general noise level and the sheer overcapacity of the space - and the very loud family beside us. Also, regular price wings (we enjoyed the wing night special of BOGO free) is $18/lb. So, on a non special night, our bill would have been $72 +tax with no drinks. Went to India Village just up the street to get take out for my husband who had to work late. Go see my review of that place - what a stark contrast in service AND the food was...
Read moreWe're always looking for new restaurants to check out. Last night we dined at the Coach and Lantern. A very cozy place, and a lot of fun. You must have a reservation. There are not many tables and it fills up quickly. There is a great bar area where you can sit too. The menu looks good, and there are daily features. A small selection of wines red and white. Beer 🍺🍻 on tap, Caesars and other mixed cocktails. Very friendly staff. They were quick and checked in on us. The table we sat at was a bit small for 4 people, the girls were good at taking away anything that finished or we no longer needed. Plenty of Parking, it is located just across the street to the left of the building. We were here in April 2024. Its not warm enough to sit outside. Their courtyard looks like it would be pretty cool in the summer, and you can eat outside. We enjoyed their feature Pickerel and chips, their Beef-tips, shrimp 🦐🍤 appetizer, spinach dip, fried pickles and deep fried cauliflower. All were delicious! Definitely would eat here again, or even pop on for some live music 🎵🎶 and sit at the...
