I have been to this location on many occasions and never have experienced such unprofessional management on the afternoon shift specially.
Firstly, I went through drive thru for a meal and the total was 12.36. I had given the management at drive thru a $5 bill, two loonies and one toonie as well as 4 quarters (equalling $1) for a total of $10. I began to give her the remaining $2.35 in dimes and I was told that it was “very disrespectful to give this much change and that it was ILLEGAL all across Canada.”
Never in my years have I heard of this law but was further told to “look it up” and that the remaining transaction of $2.35 would need to be done in store.
As I proceeded to do so, the manager was still claiming that it cannot be done as she only has “two hands and is just ONE person.” I further apologized acknowledging that i understood the annoyance BUT that is what the job entails as a whole; providing customer service and collecting customer money. When asked why she lied about this made up law, she still continued to argue and claim that it’s always been that way and that she does not care.”
The afternoon manger STILL proceeded to argue, allowing myself as well as other customers to wait instead of counting the $2.35 in change. In the end she stated “I do not care and I am only human with two hands and DON’T have to count your change at the window as I have MY DRIVE THRU TIMES.”
So in short, there is NO “law” pertaining to using change in order to pay for food through drive thrus at any KFC locations or other fast food establishments for that matter. So being lied to in order to maintain drive thru times and to avoid counting change as it was said to be “disrespectful” is insane ESPECIALLY over $2.35.
As a person who has worked in multiple customer service positions including fast food service, I have never denied counting change that a customer has given in order to pay for their meal. This was by far the worst customer service I have ever received over a 12.35 order for food. Instead of de-escalating the situation and doing what their job requires of them, I was lied to instead in order to preserve the drive thru times and make their job easier.
Unfortunately as a customer, everyone should be aware of the afternoon manager as she is NOT qualified for that position in anyway. Further action will be taken and head office has been informed as this is not right in anyway.
As for the other employees on the afternoon shift, they were very nice and helpful during this encounter which goes to show that the wrong person is being left in charge to deal with customer concerns or customers in general. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. They gave me the wrong order, and when I called to clarify, the manager’s response was shocking – she said, “Your order is still on the table, you took the wrong one,” and insisted it was my fault because “customers must cross-check their order before leaving.” This is unacceptable. I picked up my order after confirming my order number with the staff. Instead of owning up to their mistake, the manager spoke rudely, tried to shift all the blame onto me, and outright refused to refund the amount for the missing items. The behavior was unprofessional, dismissive, and completely lacking in basic customer service skills. It shows a serious inability to perform the responsibilities of the role. I lost part of my order amount because of someone else’s negligence. If this is how the store is being managed, it’s no surprise customers will walk away. The owner should seriously address this issue, train the staff on how to handle orders and treat customers respectfully, and ensure such incidents don’t happen again. Read moreThis is the worst kfc in Hamilton. Food is always cold and NEVER FRESH. The workers also speak only Indian to each other infront of you which is extremely RUDE. Today I waited for someone to acknowledge me when I walked in to take my order and nobody came. Everyone was in the back doing skip and uber orders. I waited 15 minutes and No one came to the front to take my order so I just left. Everytime I go here there’s always a problem!! last time I got a pop with no syrup, I ALWAYS have to ask them to make my order FRESH god forbid I don’t my chicken and fries would be cold! They always do my orders wrong and I constantly say I need it made a certain way due to an allergy and it annoys them AND WE GET attitude about it. I only go here because it’s close to home but today will be my last time going to this location. Horrible horrible business. Do not go here! Understaffed and rude employees and garbage food. Poor kfc wonder why it’s going down in the fast food chain look at the people you hire! They don’t even smile hate there job and barely speak English or understand English.
