If you want an exceptional seafood dining experience, The Table at Codfathers is THE place to go. You know the catch is fresh when you see them pulling ingredients from the connecting seafood market next door!
Taking pride in ethically sourcing their seafood and working with local fishermen is so admirable. They walk the talk too—down to details such as the paper straws to cut down on plastic.
I've visited multiple times for all different occasions and party sizes. Ross and his team have always put in an incredible amount of care in the food and service. Ross (owner & head chef) can be seen visiting guests' tables to answer any questions. He can even tell you the origins of what you're eating—just ask!
The restaurant space is small (can fit maybe 30 people) but is cosy and casual. I'd recommend making a reservation for the busy dining hours to get a spot.
If you have a special occasion, custom menus are available with advanced notice. The last time we went, we had a party of 7 + 3 kids. Ross asked us if we had a budget in mind and worked together a list of dishes. We weren't too conservative with our spending but I was impressed that he was sensitive enough to ask. The amount of food we received was very generous, and the bill at the end was more than reasonable. I admit I was shocked it was less than what I thought it would be. We had oysters on the half shell, smoked trout ravioli, tempura avocado, and with crowd favourites: the prawn tacos and the epic snow crab platter (crab legs on mussels and clams) at the end. One guest, who was born in Mexico, said that it was the best taco she ever had! It was an educational experience for the kids too, as they had looked at the live crabs in the tank next door, then their dad showed them after they were cooked too.
Big shout out to Michael and Aidan for working so hard, despite being short on staff that night. (Ross was shucking oysters for a charity event—can you blame him?!)
Last, I'd like to mention that they have several different themed events throughout the year, so keep an eye on their Facebook page. There's everything from elegant 4 course, wine-paired meals to get-yer-fingers-dirty, Louisiana-style prawn boils. I haven't done the latter, but it sounds super fun!
Even if you stop by for their regular menu, you won't be disappointed, no matter...
Read moreupdate(one week later): My FIL and I took MIL and my spouse here. They've never been. And, it was pretty bad this time around. Ordered the family 8 pc Pacific Cod fish and chips, and the fish was SO tough on the edges, it was like biting into beef jerky. The thicker pieces were more palatable, but overly cooked and dried out. Batter was fried to extra crispy. It was just not good. So, I hate to say this, but this place is real hit or miss. You can either get the best fish and chips of your life, or the worst. Previous review below:
My father-in-law and I have an annual tradition of going out for fish and chips. I visit every summer, and we usually go to C-lovers. We've also been to Welton Arms, and some spots in Peachland, and usually get fish and chips at random spots like Red Robins. But, ever since they moved nearby, we walk to Broken Anchor. Hands down, their fish and chips are the best I've ever had. They use a light tempura style batter. The fish and fries are crispy and not greasy at all. I love their take on tartar sauce. And, the presentation is great. It's not just tossed in a newspaper lined basket. They bring it out like a fancy restaurant would. The cole slaw is also a nice variation. It seems to have curry powder in it. I like it, but it's definitely not your traditional style cole slaw. The only con is the prices. It's fairly pricey. For 2pc's of Halibut, it's over $40. That's...

I have a celiac gluten allergy and have long given up on being able to enjoy fish and chips. To my surprise and delight, I discovered that Broken Anchor has managed to split the atom and deliver delicious fish and chips in a completely gluten free kitchen. The fish is fresh and succulent and the star of the show, with a light batter taking backstage for added flavour - but not overpowering the fish as you get with most fish & chips restaurants. It was so good I couldn't help but over-eat, yet I still didn't feel sluggish and heavy afterwards. The fries were top notch as well and were voraciously devoured by our party of six. As out-of-towners we are already planning our second dinner at Broken Anchor for this week's ski trip.
Also a note on the service. There was a mix-up in my large order (my mistake) leaving me unable to pick up the initial order. Aiden, the manager, was friendly and professional in handling it - even though it meant he would be out-of-pocket for the order since their high quality standards prevented them from redirecting orders from the kitchen if it could not be plated within a few minutes of preparation. This is the kind of customer experience that seems to be in short supply these days.
I cannot recommend Broken Anchor highly enough, especially for those with gluten allergies or...
