Service was not the best, and the menu could use some help.

I don’t personally eat fish (aka carnitarian), so I typically only eat vegetarian options at sushi places. This was my first ever experience of not being able to order food at a sushi place. I had asked to come here for a sushi birthday dinner, but I literally could not order one single thing.

The only vegetarian item on the menu was described only with “seasonal vegetables” which is extremely vague - if an establishment has paper menus one would expect that it would be frequently updated, right? The other vegetarian item that the waitress identified for me had caviar, which actually makes it not vegetarian. This really annoyed me. She also wrote all over our menus when we arrived, which I didn’t like.

Sure, I could have ordered Pad Thai or another entree but I came to a high end sushi restaurant for sushi; this was a big disappointment.

Suggestions for improvement: update menu to include more options for vegetarians, carnitarians, and pescatarians ask your staff to NOT write on the paper menus; part of the reason many places are doing paper menus is for Covid protocols. better yet, do away with the paper menus (Covid protocol dependant) and upgrade to menu folders. This would be more environmentally conscious and would be more appropriate for a high end restaurant...

The atmosphere is definitely the aspect that I loved the most when dining here. The spacious couches/ chairs and the good distance between the tables really makes you feel more comfortable and less cramped in the restaurant. The service was delightful, while maintaining her professionalism, the waitress was polite and friendly. I do feel like it did take quite a long time before we managed to order our food but the restaurant was quite busy so it is understandable. I really enjoyed their edamame soup. It's such an innovative concept to me, I never had soup like this before but I was a bit disappointed because I couldn't really taste any edamame. But still, the soup was creamy and tasted great. As for the sashimi combo that I had, I really enjoyed the freshness of the fish and the size of the slices. The presentation was also magnificent. For 45$ the combo though, I do feel like the platter of sashimi was a bit underwhelming. The cuts were quite basic and even though I like the presentation, most of the stuff on it was not really adding anything to the flavours. The radish was also a bit bitter which made the overall less enjoyable. I would have loved to see some fancier ingredients such as fatty tuna or scallops, especially for the prices they charge for 16...

I worked as a sushi chef for 5 years, and I always disect the rolls when it gets here. I wanted to try a Menu that is different and exciting.

Most restaurant I tried had very similar types of rolls and similar taste. There's only that much that you can do when the ingredients are the same across most sushi restaurant.

I saw that Sogen offered a completely different menu and decided to give it a try. I was absolutely Speechless. The taste, service and ambiance, everything was on point.

They have an extensive speciatly sushi offerings, just ask the waiters. I like how they put their own touch on the taste of their dishes. The mix of ingredients and sauce really brought out the flavors of the ingredients.

It's not your traditional all you can eat, nor your fast food style sushi restaurant. That's why the service is slower, to give you time to get a feel of the ambiance and to get time to taste each of their dishes.

100% will recommend again!

Must Try:

creme edamame Agedashi tofu Gindara au Kimchi et Erable Soleil levant yama...

Fusion Japanese food. Taste is good. Plating is excellent. Service is good. Here are what I tried: - 9 pieces sashimi plate. Taste ok but underwhelming especially the selection of fish - the specialty maki (Kanji & Supaishi). Interesting especially the no rice soy wrap maki. But I don't understand the purpose of the sliced strawberry. Its taste does not go with the Maki and decoration wise it is like of out of place imo. - sweet shrimp sashimi, a bit disappointing. The menu says sashimi has 3 pieces but I only got 2. Also I cannot taste the ocean umami sweetness. - the suicide hamachi maki. The menu says it is spicy but there is absolutely not spicy.
