I am Portuguese and I have tried a majority of the Portuguese restos both in Laval and Montreal, some great ones, some bad ones but I am yet to try a horrible one....until tonight. I ordered a bifana sandwich combo and an extra sandwich for another person. First off, both sandwiches came in a small aluminum foil container with a plastic cover, what???? The potatoes were mostly all burnt and the rice wasn't the traditional Portuguese rice they used to serve but rather some poor attempt at making Chinese fried rice. The pork on the sandwich was obviously not marinated like usual and so overcooked that some pieces were like jagged pieces of hard cardboard and the less hard pieces just as bland. The bread was dry and no salad either which used to accompany the combos. Furthermore, I dared to try the "piri-piri" sauce and that too was a horrible. Watery consistency with no taste at all, just spicy hot comparing to chili flakes in water.
We rarely if ever called a restaurant to complain but we did. The guy on the phone although saying sorry once, when asked "What will you do about it?" just rudely hung up the phone!! This place used to be great and never disappointed but now they are obviously under new ownership who either don't have a clue, don't care about their clients or perhaps both.
There are many good Portuguese restaurants around but even if you were to blindly pick a bad one, it would surely be better...
Read more3.5/5 I ordered the 3 meat combo that came with the chicken, ribs, and pork. The meal also came with two sides. I chose the roasted potatoes and Portuguese rice. The other two options are salad (coleslaw) and fries. The peri peri sauce and the seasoning on all 3 meats were great, that being said the food was cold. It felt like it was prepared in advance and not piping hot off the grill. The grilled pork was tasty but cold and tough to chew. It is a shame the ribs were cold, otherwise they are amazing. The rice and roasted potatoes were both lacking flavor, even salt. The rice was mushy and didn't feel fresh, stick to the fries and/or roast potatoes. The Natas were fantastic and they have a variety of flavors. I tried passionfruit Sumol, it is lightly carbonated. I went around 6pm close to closing time which was 8pm. The 3 meat combo with a natas and sumol drink after taxes hit $30 which kind of pricey. You will on average spend $20 on the low end. I am willing to try it again and would recommend everyone try it atleast once. Service...
Read moreUpdate: Some good and a disappointment. Tried their Portuguese 'Panetone' style cake and it was excellent! Their round buns were very good. However, the natas were offered in pre-prepped pastry boxes which changed the usual flaky texture and turned soggy. Very disapponting! I will never accept this again. I really hope they stop doing this. Last past review: Ever since I tried the Pasteis de Nata in Portugal, I was looking for the same incredible taste back here on the homefront. So far, out of four places, this eatery has come the closest. The flaky crust is excellent, especially when made fresh. The custard was good, however, did not feel like a 'pure' taste I was looking for. All in all, very pleased and will be...
