We stopped here for a “quick” bite to eat on our motorcycle trip. We ordered our food/paid inside and went to sit on the patio to await our food and drinks (non-alcoholic). I asked if we could get the drinks and take out with us, very thirsty with traveling... she said she would bring them out in a minute...took a good 10-15 min for our waters and OJ’s to come out. We ordered the small bbq pizza special and large poutine. The other couple with us ordered 2 of the small bbq pizza specials. It took about 40 min for the first of our food to arrive and when it did, it was only our single small bbq pizza. Then about 5 minutes later the poutine...10 minutes later our friends 2 small pizzas arrived. It was not busy, there was basically nobody there but us. Pizza wasn’t bad, poutine was ok at least it had real cheese curds. No malt vinegar available (what is that?!? Server had no idea) we have clear only. Why did it take so long for the food? Would not go back to this place.

IWorst fish and chips I've had in my life hands down. Place was completely empty and still took 35 min to cook. No atmosphere just a dead quiet room with TV's turned off.

Food was great, gone here a few times now never had any complaints. Good prices too, decent selection and good service.

Unwelcoming Encounter at Hannah’s Diner - Avoid at All Costs!

——————————————————

Update based on owners reply below:

Dear Owner of Hannah’s Diner,

Your response to my review only reinforces the negative impression your establishment left on us. Instead of acknowledging a fault or attempting to understand the situation from a customer’s perspective, you double down and further berate us.

The fact is, we were indeed planning to dine at your restaurant. However, after being told NOT to park there in a confrontational manner, who would want to eat at your establishment? Our appetite was entirely lost after that encounter.

It’s interesting that you claim we were wrongfully parked, but had you approached the situation with courtesy and a simple inquiry, you would have learned that we were intending to be customers. Your aggressive tone and unwillingness to engage in respectful dialogue reveal a lack of customer service and empathy.

You may think that we never had the intention to dine in, but your actions spoke louder than our plans, and they were enough to deter us from what was meant to be a pleasant family meal. Instead of finding fault in our actions, perhaps a moment of reflection on how you approach potential customers might be in order.

We’ll continue to avoid Hannah’s Diner, and I encourage others to think carefully before giving their business to an establishment that treats people this way.

Original comments:

My father and I had the misfortune of stopping by Hannah’s Diner during a visit to Barry’s Bay. The events that unfolded turned what was supposed to be a pleasant dining experience into an unpleasant and unwarranted confrontation.

We parked in their lot and I briefly left to fetch my mother from a nearby shop. In a matter of three minutes, the owner stormed out to our vehicle, yelling at my confused father with a thick Indian accent, making communication difficult. When I returned, I was met with the same hostile reception. It took a full minute to convey that we had planned to dine at their establishment. By then, the owner’s Rottweiler-like attitude had already destroyed our appetite.

We understand that Hannah’s Diner might deal with tourists misusing their parking space, but such an aggressive approach towards potential customers is beyond unacceptable. The encounter was uncalled for, intimidating, and left us with a bitter taste.

With so many welcoming restaurants and shops within walking distance, we strongly recommend avoiding Hannah’s Diner at all costs. This experience was a reminder that hospitality should be at the heart of the service industry, something that was sorely lacking at this establishment. Save your time and money, and...

Our family is big time foodies and always out and about looking for new fun places to go visit and new food to try. However, this time we were in Barry’s Bay and I got excited to have Dickie-Lee’s chicken for the first time in a few years. However, when I got there I was informed that they haven’t been Dixie-Lee for at least 3 years now. When asked if they use the same recipe I was informed that it was a new and much improved recipe that was less greasy. While waiting for our take out order we used the facilities. They seemed clean. The waitress however seemed to have a hard time juggling taking orders, and getting things out to people. She was throwing out wrong receipts, and sounding extremely frustrated. It took about 10-15 minutes before we received our order. A basic 5 piece chicken, no extras. The chicken was in fact greasy, the breading was quite thin, the chicken had no flavour to it and even the breading tasted very basic, and there was a slight fish taste to the meat that was noticed by both my husband and my daughter. The size of the chicken however was nicely sized but I personally will not be re-attending this restaurant. There was absolutely no wow factor here...
