The Oar House — Restaurant in Marathon

We had a great lunch and we left feeling very satisfied. We were on a road trip and we decided to pull into lovely Marathon, Ontario. When Google maps gave us options, we deliberately didn’t want go to the local A&W or Pizza Hut. We wanted to enjoy a diner experience like we were used to. As we were passing through and on a schedule, we had to stick with light fare so we ordered the Egg Salad Sandwich on toasted Rye bread with Fries, the Cheeseburger and the Chicken Cutlet Panini. The egg sandwich was great, with flourishes of diced lettuce mixed in and the rye tasted delicious toasted. The Cheeseburger was deliciously homemade. We were informed by the staff that the buns and panini bread were homemade as well as their tomato sauce. The chicken panini was excellent with lots of parmesan cheese. Worse experience here, ordered hot chicken sandwich with mashed and gravy it was good my wife had half rack of ribs with mashed potatoes the first few bites we're ok but close to the bone was pink and ice cold tried to get waitress attention but did not come to our table for entire meal to ask if we needed any thing or how the meal was,when we finished tried again to get waitress to come to our table they stood at the cash and waved for us to come there,the whole time there all you can hear in the kitchen is the microwave going off,they just heat everything with a microwave what a joke then asked for bill receipt they don,t do that so you can,t see the break down of the bill,don,t recomend this place they don,t know what they are doing,-5 stars for this...

The good: fresh ingredients and definitely home made items to be had, which is a lovely change when you're on the road and getting fast food so much! The bad: if you're getting items to go back to a hotel, double check you have cutlery and seasonings as many of the items were pretty bland, but I can appreciate that it would be more inclusive to customers who are restrictive of some items. Overall, despite having to eat items with our hands and coffee sticks and it was kinda bland and had me wishing i travelled with salt, it was good food and im sure eating in the restaurant would be a...
