Agogo KTV — Restaurant in Markham

Want to be clear that this one-star rating is for weeknights and weekends only. Their weekday afternoon happy hour is more like a 4-star experience, with much better service, clean rooms, decent selection of songs (not 5 stars because the washrooms never have soap, the song selection touch pads have sensor issues, and the call button for service is a loud constant beep until the service guy comes in to cancel it. So you can't really sing during this time).

We've become a regular for their weekday afternoon happy hour this year, since our old go to Karaoke closed down due to the pandemic. But the past two weeknight/weekend experiences were so bad, they lost us as customers forever. There are many Karaoke places in Markham, we will spend our money elsewhere.

Problems we had these past two weeks:

Bad experience # 1 - Weekend afternoon K - Right from the start, the two staffs acted just like another reviewer here said "seemed really upset that we existed". They kept saying they don't want to do this, and push the other person to open a new room for us. Yes, arguing back and forth right in front of us like we didn't exist. We thought if they are that busy, we were about to leave and go to another place. Then one of them asked "can you just have one mic?" and reluctantly took us in.

found out the place was only half full, yet they gave us a dirty room filled with smoke smell (literally smelled like a big party of smokers just left).

no mic covers (which are standard now), and the mics they gave us had no batteries from the start. We called them through the loud service button, never came, we had to go outside and chase them to get new mics and mic covers.

we were there for a few hours, service was very slow (we ordered beers and food intermittently). Many times they didn't show up, so we had to go outside to find them.

paying time, they said "the machine has some problems", we can only pay cash. Didn't look at us, not apologetic at all, just wanted us to pay and leave. This has never happened to us during the weekday afternoon K.

Bad experience # 2 - Weeknight - still got a dirty smoke filled room, still had slow and bad service throughout. But worst than before, the minimum charge they told us was not what they ended up charging.

AGAIN "there's something wrong with the machine, pay cash only". They didn't even give us a receipt, we're pretty sure they were trying to pocket some money.

Bad attitude as always, not apologetic at all, more like our existence inconvenienced them, "just pay up quickly and...

Extremely bad experience. Went in with friends at a snowing Tuesday night, and barely any customer was in the store. No greetings, no welcomes. Before anything happened, the two reception girls told us there would be a minimum charge of $198 for getting a room combined with couple snacks and alcohol drinks. We didn't even know how the facilities were and what's exactly contained in the minimum charge combo, they simply asked us accept or not. As none of us wanted to drink, we asked if we could avoid the minimum charge by not getting the alcohols, the two girls were so impatient and scornful. How could a business not doing business with customers who simply wanted to get a place to sing songs instead of getting drunk? Especially in a terrible snowy night in which people usually stay at home. We ended up with turning to another karaoke with $20 per person for unlimited use of room. I would give out ZERO star if I could!!! Save your time and money. DO NOT GO...

There is a minimum spend, like most Karaoke places. Near the end of the night we were told that we were about $120 short of our minimum spend, so we ordered some more food and drinks as the kitchen was closing. About $50 worth, as confirmed by the staff helping us. Great, that just means that we had another $70 to spend on alcohol until the end of the night.

We ordered maybe 8 more beers before the night was over and when we got the bill, it was nearly double of what the room limit was. That means when we were told that we were $120 short of our limit, we were already much over. We wouldn't have ordered the extra food and drink if we'd known that.

At first I thought maybe that this was a mistake by their staff, but then if you read all the other 1-star reviews here you start to see a trend so no, I do not believe this was a mistake and rather shady tactics from this establishment.
