I really like this place, I think they make the best shawarmas in Markham. However, since I was accused of 'stealing' a shawarma from the one of the female employees, I felt too uncomfortable to come in. When I first came here, the owner offered me soup, and told me all about his small business. I am an advocate of small businesses and I usually go to mom and pop stores all the time. He made me want to visit this place weekly just to talk to him and eat his shawarmas.
This changed however when I was first accused of 'stealing' a shawarma, the female employee made me feel super awkward and told me "I looked like someone who did not pay for their shawarma" . I do not know how someone looks like they do not pay? First of all, I am wearing a mask, I do not know how this female employee was able to distinguish my face as the person that DID NOT PAY for a shawarma? This really hurt and embarrassed me because I was with someone during this incident. It got to the point that the person I was with had to jump in and defend my character. I never stole anything in my life, and what I thought was a friendly place turned out to be a hostile environment.
Now fast forward to today, I decided you know what, let me give this place one more chance. The lady was there again, she gave me a dirty look as I walked in. She took my order and demanded me to go pay before she finished making my shawarma. I felt that hostile environment again, so I did as she asked, when I was done paying, so was my shawarma. I did not even get a chance to check if she put all the toppings I wanted, she actually forgot the hot sauce and had to put it on after. There was also no Tahini in my shawarma even though I asked her if there was. My shawarma had very little toppings, dry chicken, no tahini and was disappointing to eat to say the least.
The young female employee has a serious attitude and really needs to take a step back and learn some customer service. She is rude, ignorant, and is a fire cracker to customers. I am sorry Jordan Shawarma I will not be coming back, I tried to be a loyal customer, however now I am just an angry customer.
Good luck...
Read moreAfter reading the reviews I decided to try this place against my better judgement as I've never had any luck with good sharwama.
I ordered the chicken shawarma bowl and chicken sharwama sandwich (more like a wrap).
Plenty of chicken provided in both food items, wrap was toasted in a panani press which gave the wrap a nice crunch. Should have asked for extra dressing as after a couple of bites the wrap/chicken was quite dry & flavorless. Chicken for the wrap was taken from a plastic container (who knows how long the chicken pieces were sitting in that container) whereas the chicken for the bowl was sliced off directly from a rotating skewer containing the large chicken meat pieces.
The downfall of both items and previous sharwamas I've had is the chicken is always overcooked, flavorless and dry (so dry it almost had a powdery texture and disintegrated on your tongue as you bit into the chicken meat) This place was no exception. Compare this with chicken meat from Mary Brown's (moist, tender) and you will see/taste the huge difference.
Luckily the sharwama bowl and wrap was mixed with rice, salad and dressing (ask for extra dressing!) which somewhat compensated for the dryness and lack of flavor of the chicken meat.
Maybe I caught them on a bad day as the chicken is definitely not moist as described in previous reviews or my benchmark for properly cooked chicken is too high.
Also the lady behind the counter never smiled during the entire process of accepting and preparing my food order.
Chicken shawarma may be a viable delicious food option for some people but this a hard...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing hidden gem in Thornhill! The family team (only the husband and wife were there when we went) are sooo sweet and friendly who genuinely care whether or not you're enjoying your meal. This is now definitely the best shawarma in the area and we're already lucky enough to have a ton of good places like Shawarma Stop and Pitalicious.
My coworker and I both ordered the chicken shawarma bowl with a mix of rice/salad. The bowl was completely loaded up and the chicken was freshly cut up so it was tender and juicy with a bit of crispiness! They serve it with hummus, homemade hot sauce, tzatziki and other white/red sauces. They don't skimp on any of the ingredients and I really hope it stays this way. The only major difference between this chicken shawarma is there's no potatoes however I'm totally okay with this - it ends up being a lighter meal especially with the fresh salad that's NOT iceberg/romaine lettuce.
While we ate (constantly amazed by how good it was), the owner also brought us over fresh falafels to try and they were amazing too. Crispy on the outside and a flavourful fluffy inside. They also gave us a bit of lentil soup which was really sweet and some desserts too.
The only downside worth mentioning is the restaurant was a little cold when we went so we had our coats on and the decor is a little dingy but nothing that takes away from the warm hospitality and the amazing food.
Please enjoy and support these guys. Truly...
