Philoxenia Greek Cuisine — Restaurant in Markham

I wanted to like this place based on reviews sounded great. Unfortunately the food was very salty way overly salted and could not enjoy any of the dishes. The fried calamari was exceptionally salty and inedible for me. The lamb chops were also overcooked I requested med rare and once again very salty. This food experience would of been 2 star but they lose another star as the server forgot to enter our entrees after an hour we reminded them and they said oh we thought you were working on appetizers still. By the time the entrees came we weren't even hungry anymore. Instead of offering something just gave us a dumbfounded look like there is nothing we could do were not going offer anything free dessert nothing. We wouldn't of accepted the dessert but would of been nice to show a good gesture of customer service. The manager came over and again offered nothing whispered something into what looked like the owners ear and disappeared. Good places dont handle situations this way. I still gave my normal 20% tip but now regretting it and wont patronage this place again. Too bad Thornhill needs good places to compete with Toronto. My instinct was to got Tarra in the same plaza and that is where I will go next time. For Greek I will try SANTORINI MEDITERRANEAN CUISINE in Thornhill next time over this over...

We were a party of 2, early on a Wednesday evening. We were greeted in an odd manner. The server/host had a weird reaction where he fussed about how we did not have reservations, walked frantically all around the restaurant, yet the restaurant was completely empty, and practically empty the entire time we were there. He checked with another guy They sat us in far back as possible and hid us from everyone. The service was awful except for this one new employee. We kept having to wait long intervals to be served. The cod dip was delicious, bread and red pepper dip was good. Our entrées were very salty, we got both the marinated chicken and Cornish hen. Chicken was cooked to perfection, veggie portions were pathetic, a single piece of broccoli , a small slice of pepper and 1/4 of a shaved carrot. The chicken was salty and bitter. Did not taste marinated for me. We didn’t even bother getting dessert at this point, it took 20 minutes to get our bill and pay for our food. We felt ignored the entire time. I first came to Philoxenia a couple weeks ago and was blown away by the service, ambiance and food. Kenny was extremely hospitable while overseeing the restaurant. Tony is attentive to all your needs. The restaurant feels like a home but at the same time reflects fine dining.

We had Taramosolata, Hummus and some loukoumades but the lamb chops were my most memorable memory. They were juicy and flavourful and definitely something I will have again.

On our second visit we were met with the same service and they even remembered my name! Forgive me if I don't know the names of all the food I tried but trust me when I say it was just as good. We had some deep fried fish app and octopus app but the star was lobster pasta. II am not joking I have never had pasta this good. There was a point where I just closed my eyes and relished in the fact that I was here having this amazing pasta. Yes. Feelings of yum.
