We found this restaurant on Yelp and was enticed to try it out. Coming in around 1pm, the restaurant wasn't too busy yet so we had a seat right away. Although, just an FYI, there isn't much parking in that plaza so I can imagine how hard it'll be to find a spot during a busy time.
Their menu offers only 2 mains: regular braised chicken ($8.99) or boneless option ($10.99). The chicken has an option of spice level, but honestly, you have to try authentic ;) You can add any additional toppings for $1.99 each along with any snacks, drinks you want to add on top, and each order comes with a pretty big bowl of rice. The popcorn chicken ($5.99): It was a pretty good portion, and the chicken was pretty soft. What I liked was that it didn't have an oily taste to it (compared to some I've tried), and also crunchy which was great. Boneless Braised Chicken Rice ($10.99): Wow, the chicken was super soft and juicy! We got the authentic spice level which was (level 2/3) and it honestly wasn't too spicy at all; maybe just a little ting in your mouth. The sauce wasn't too salty, as well; definitely authentic to what I've had in other restaurants before. Also, the portion of the chicken is pretty big, so it might be better to share it unless you have a big appetite.
Overall, I was happy and full, and definitely will come back in the...
Read moreWe've been coming here for about a year. Today the restaurant announced some changes to their menu.
In the past, there were generous portions of chicken and plenty of add ons such as various vegetables and tofu etc. But I've learned the manager has taken those off the menu because the "water content" in the veggies would affect the flavor. I had the "new" version without veggies today and it tasted the same. Also their portion of chicken has been reduced to 3/4 or more of the original. The pots were once elevated above the wooden board, but now are sunken into the wooden board with a flat bottom, to give the appearance of a greater depth.
The service is increasingly rushed and rude. If you are of Asian decent, they assume you have WeChat, and want you to place your orders on WeChat, instead of through the servers. If you want to place orders the "old fashioned way" the server will act like you are being difficutlt. Does this mean you don't need to tip anymore?
During my lunch I heard 3-4 different people complaining about the lack of vegetables/add ons. This in addition to the reduced portions are a clear sign that this place is trying to cut costs/corners. This place is going down hill,...
Read moreI didn't know they were a famous chain worldwide when I googled them. They have quite a number of restaurants in the USA. The restaurant is also known as " One Pot Wonder "
Yang's serves mainly braised chicken. There are three options for the chicken:
-non spicy -signature taste (which is slightly spicy) -spicy
The braised chicken comes with rice (the rice is of low quality). You can also request for more sauce when placing your order. For $7.99, you can get the Boned in Chicken versus $9.99 which is he boneless chicken. To me, the chicken was just as tender and yummy, with or without bones. Therefore, to avoid biting into bones while eating, I said go with the boneless version for $2 more. Also, I love that it isn't white meat.
There are also a few appetizers on the menu as the popcorn chicken and the takoyaki balls. Both were delicious. Options for add on to the chicken is also available at a surcharge such as extra veggies.
Staff speaks Cantonese/Mandarin and English. This place does tons of of takeouts - not sure if there are some specials online or with those delivery companies as I kept seeing drivers coming in to pick...
