Don't get me wrong. We like this place. We live in east Toronto and when we go on a "day trip" and end up in Meaford, we always stop at this place for a meal. The food is good, prices are generally reasonable and service is decent. We dropped in today for an early meal. We noticed their chalk board listed a "featured cocktail". The waitress asked if we wanted a drink and we asked what their "featured" cocktail was. She said it was something "top gun" related due to the film festival in town. it was a "Plum Sour" (Like a whiskey sour, with plum juice.) I'm not a big drinker at all, but was disappointed to see that it came in a small champagne-style glass, with the top half of it being foam - maybe an ounce of actual liquid. It was nothing particularly fancy and it was nice, but nothing special. We all ordered the Meatloaf dinner which we have had before and enjoy. Cost of the dinner was $19. This is relevant. We got our cheque and realized that the cost of the "Plum Sour" was $18 each.. Seriously? One dollar less than the actual meal for an ounce of alcohol? Cost was not noted on the chalkboard which featured the drink, and the waitress said nothing about the cost of the tiny drink. Food was good, but the cost of the drink left a sour taste in our mouth, pun intended. Tax, tip, drink and meal was about $50 per person, and more than one third of that was for a tiny little drink. Ridiculous. I would have given this a higher score for service, for a solid four, but I really think they should have listed the cost of the drink on the chalk board, or at the very least, the waitress should have said something. We dine out quite a bit and I've never paid this much for a cocktail Honestly..$18 for the drink, and $19 for the dinner? Just unbelievable and obvioudly price gouging at it's finest. I'll probably go back there for food, but I won't be ordering drinks without checking prices first. Really disappointing this time around. PS. I noticed someone actually took a photo of the drink we ordered (Pink with half of it foam) and the angle of the photo makes it look like a big marguarita glass. It's not. The glass is about three inches across. It's just a tiny champagne...

So we went to Meaford as one of our summer vacation camping destinations. Some research about Meaford suggested that the Dam Pub would be a good place to try, it was disappointing. We went at dinner time on a Sunday, the restaurant didn’t look overly busy. Now I call it a restaurant because it’s definitely not a Pub despite the great selection of whiskey. We parked across the street and saw the sandwich board on the sidewalk speaking to the day’s special menu and an invite to come inside. When we walked in the hostess asked about our reservation, to which we had none and were told that we could sit at the bar to eat, so we did. After a look at the menu and drinks we order a couple drinks and then set to look over the menu. I asked to order one of the advertised specials from the sandwich board and was told that was not an option as they only prepare enough of the special based on the reservations and don’t take walk ins to account ??? Needless to say this was disappointing to say the least. As we were sorting out what to eat most of the tables from that seating cleared out. So rather than offer us a table and an option to order from the advertised specials our server (the bartender) waited awkward while we picked a substitute from the menu. Shortly before our food arrived a large walk in party arrived and we were asked to move to accommodate them, again at this time most of the seats in the restaurant were empty. Needless to say we ate and left disappointed at the choice to go to this place to eat as there are many other options in walking distance to this one. No apologies were ever offered and no accommodation was ever provided. I would never return to this restaurant nor would I recommend it to anyone travelling through this area. Spend your money where it’s appreciated, as we did definitely not feel like...

Let me start by saying that I will never eat here again. My family of 9 go out once a year together and this year decided to go to The Dam pub because we have been there twice before and really enjoyed it and because they have an upstairs room that's a little more quiet and private. This was booked by email with Stephanie a few weeks in advance. We were told to be there at 7:15 sharp and that the service might be a little slow because of being busy and upstairs. We loved that because it would give us extra visiting time. We got there at 7:10 to find out that the room was given away to a party of 23. At first Stephanie would not come out to talk to us and when she finally did she started off by complaining that she was "very busy tending bar and did not have time for this". She was rude, kept saying that she never said the "upstairs room" even thought that's what we asked for and her reply was that she could accommodate us and to her it wasn't a big deal. She basically said she ran a successful business and doesn't make mistakes. She finally offered to buy us each a drink but she really couldn't care if we stayed or left. Her attitude was pretty much 9 people were not going to make or break her business and she just wanted to get back to bartending. The worst customer service I have ever received in my life and the food wasn't that great either. The ONLY positive thing about the night was our waiter James. He is amazing, funny helpful and...

Had great expectations based on reviews. I occasionally am in this area and never heard about this establishment.I was at the international air show in T.O which recommended everyone visit and they were a sponsor of the event. Thought we would try. The service was disappointing as soon as we entered .The server was impatient and not friendly. Other patrons were remarking at her composure and professionalism. We came to try some of the various whiskey drinks. My SIL asked what's a popular pick what would she recommend thinking it's a whisky house and suggestions of customer faves .She said she wouldn't know she doesn't drink whisky ?? For the price we thought they would have crafted cocktails by seasoned bar staff or a mixologist not the server who didn't know about the whisky's.Cocktails weren't good, the food was worse. It looked good but very bland with little to no seasoning. Later after we finally received our meal the server apologized , not sure if someone else said something to her about her overall performance, she explained she was 4 months new. She changed her attitude, we felt bad for her at that moment, maybe Saturday lunch service was too hectic for her to manage. Obviously we didn't want to upset her with a quality complaint. The restaurant looks great and the concept is brilliant but they need to address alot for us to return.

The Dam Pub is “dam” good!! We visited for lunch today and were impressed with the atmosphere, food, and service. The restaurant moved from Thornbury to Meaford and is a wonderful addition to the main street corridor. The decor and atmosphere is cozy, like a British pub, and the whiskey wall, with over 1,000 types of whiskey is a cool and unique feature! A neat wall display shows a picture of John Catucci from “You Gotta Eat Here!”, which makes me want to watch the episode (S1.E14)! Our server, Megan, was very friendly and provided excellent service! The daily specials (Cauliflower Cheddar Soup, Eggs Benedict combo) sounded tasty, but we had our hearts set on certain dishes. We ordered Classic Calamari, Wee Shepherd’s Pie, and Fish & Chips. The food was delicious and nicely presented - compliments to the chefs! The calamari was enjoyed by all and not rubbery like some calamari can be. The fish & chips were fried perfectly, with crispy batter and tender fish. The tartar sauce was tangy and tasty. The shepherd’s pie with the house salad exceeded expectations. The house salad was exceptional and offered a variety of flavours. Overall, we had a “dam” good experience and will visit again! :)

A Wednesday, driving through Grey County, between Owen Sound and Thornbury, rests Meaford. A somewhat unassuming little town which the highway cuts through. If the need to stop hits you - find The Dam Pub! The wall, actually “walls” of whisky, from around the world (or at least what the LCBO will sell in Ontario) is what drew me in. And as much as I wanted to take a flight for a test, my requirement to stay on the road back home drove some constraint. Scotland, Ireland, Japan, US and of course Canadian (even Ontario) whiskies fill the “wall”. Oh, and they have food as well. We were having a late lunch so enjoyed a burger and fish & chips. The batter was light and fish cooked perfectly as it lay across a bed of perfect chips. The burger, home made and thick, with fries and two well placed and large onion rings. Both dishes were good, but a bit bland for our pallet. I washed down the burger with a local Thornbury lager. Should you go, yes. It is worth the stop to just see the “wall”. My next visit, my wife will be driving. I would be a bit more adventurous on our next visit and let my wife drive home.
