Ralph's Texas Bar & Steak House Ltd — Restaurant in Medicine Hat

Further to my posting on Trip Advisor and the owners reply, this seems the only place for the information they have asked for My visit was on January 15th. 2020 and i ate what i presume is the pub. From your pictures i can even tell where i sat. I arrived at approx 6.00pm that evening and ordered the Chicken Burger and at that time I started the discussion on the desserts. When i left my table to go I went to the bar counter and asked the barman what i could do to get out. It was at that stage that a female staff member got involved as well . A blonde with many tattoos turned round and told me to shut up, I was making a scene. The barman said nothing, choosing to walk away. Courtney got involved and said she had to adjust the bill with the barman as i was been charged for two pies instead of the only one you had. My comment was that it was a serious lack of communication.Both Courtney and the blonde got mad and their comment back was that I was to blame for the communication breakdown. I will add one last thing . I actually said to Courtney when asked if the meal was OK, BEST PIECE OF CHICKEN I HAVE HAD. When i related this to Courtney, she got cross and actually did not understand i was praising your chicken and became defensive. .But Franks red hot sauce there was noting unless it was disguised. The staff here is awesome! The young lady who took care of us (Rachel) was very attentive, informative and friendly, despite being the only wait staff in the restaurant at the time (the bartender was assisting, but busy behind the bar as well).

The restaurant has a great atmosphere and excellent food. Prices are reasonable.

We did have a little confusion about the hours of operation, as there is a nightclub(?) attached that I think is only open weekend evenings, but once we figure out the difference between the nightclub side and bar/restaurant side, it was all good.

UPDATE: I have been back again a few times now, with mixed results (though we haven't again seen Rachel, maybe she's left?)

Most recently, we went for dinner on a night before a MMA PPV event. We were there early and the place was empty. I think that maybe none of the servers had yet arrived, as we were served by the bartender and she did NOT seem happy about it!

Again, I don't know what was going on behind the scenes, maybe she was having a bad day or someone was late and she was cross about it, or maybe she was anticipating a busy miserable night because of the PPV, but I definitely missed the excellent, pleasant time we had the first time we were there.

I'll be back, but my expectations are...

Absolutely disgraceful experience. We came to this restaurant hungry and excited, having called in advance to confirm that the kitchen would be open until 2 AM. We were told clearly that it would be. We arrived before midnight, were seated, handed full menus, and placed a full order with our server. Only after all that did she come back and say, “There’s a new rule – after midnight only appetizers are served.”

No one told us this upfront. Not when we called. Not when we were seated. Not even when we ordered. According to our server (who has apparently worked there since November), this was the first time she’d ever heard of this “rule,” and it was something her manager “Berry” had just said. So not only was it unprofessional, it felt totally improvised – like we were being brushed off for no reason.

When we tried to get clarification, Berry was dismissive, cold, and frankly, disrespectful. It was clear we were not being treated fairly. Given the way we were spoken to, and the fact that other tables didn’t seem to be facing this issue, it started to feel personal – like maybe we were being judged for our accent or background.
