Silver Buckle Sports Bar — Restaurant in Medicine Hat

Visiting here in Medicine Hat from Sask and decided to check SkiptheDishes for somewhere to order from. Saw this restaurant appear on there with good ratings so decided to order. We ordered a couple burgers and an appie. They also offer cutlery settings to be ordered. As well, we requested a side of ranch for the potato wedges since they don't offer any condiment choices on their page. We didn't get any cutlery and didn't get any ranch(Not a huge deal but should probably add condiment add-ons to your skip page!). Aside from this, I paid an extra 1.50 to get a Caesar salad. Suggestion: don't waste your money on that upgrade. It's imitation bacon bits and cheap croutons and the dressing is lightly drizzled on top. Not enough and not tossed... probably to avoid soggyness...fair... But some of my lettuce was wilted brown from heat or age... hard to say cause my burger wasn't overly warm. Onion rings were also sadly overdone. Won't be calling to complain. This review is to advise others to just go to BP. Atleast there you can get a burger and Caesar salad and not still be hungry after spending $42.00 on just food for 2 people, no beverages. Food sounds good, but is executed poorly...

We went in around 1 pm. The parking lot. Was empty, the bar was slow. We sat down, and it took over 15 minutes for the server to come take our order. Took not too long to receive our meals- which was absolutely terrible. The steaks were over cooked, onion rings were burnt along with the sweet potato fries; which were one shade off of BLACK! I couldn’t even finish my meal, and the cucumber slice tasted like fish? Anyways, that’s what you get for cheap food. But the waitress was awful. And when she never checked on us once. When we were “finished”, it took her a long time again to come back. Then states , “cash or card… cash is KING”… never presented a bill, nothing, so I asked her about the price (as I did want to pay in cash) and she snarked and took out the debit machine and kind of huffed. So I again said, I need to know the price so I can pay cash. So needless to say, she got a minimal tip and should maybe find a better job .

I usually only go to the Buckle for their steak sandwich since I’ve never been a fan of their other pub food—it never really stood out and often left me with a stomach ache. However, I have to give a big 10/10 for their new chef, Alex. I went in expecting my usual steak sandwich, but was pleasantly surprised to find out they’ve completely revamped their menu with a new head chef. I ended up trying the 'Mushroom Melt Burger,' and my husband went for 'Mom's Pot Roast.' (Both 10/10 meals). For a place that’s a bit grungy, their menu has seriously elevated the entire vibe. It felt like I was dining at a more upscale pub in Calgary. They also have a fresh selection of fancy cocktails I’m excited to try! I’m so glad they hired Alex—he’s a fantastic chef who’s definitely going to take this place to the next level. Can’t wait to go back to the Buckle and try another...
