CATERING - BEWARE! Very unprofessional, unreliable, inconsistent and disorganized.
We reached out for the Smokehouse to cater our wedding, we then canceled the wedding and decided to elope and still use their food for our reception after the fact. We updated the Smokehouse of the cancelation, change in date and location. In the comments they say I used multiple emails to communicate with them, not true. I only have one email address. We were on our honeymoon on the original day our wedding was supposed to be and I get an email saying they are there with our food and that they were turned away as there was no wedding there that day. I have all the emails that we had exchanged about us canceling the wedding and the service for that date/location. As well as the emails where we reschedule for a different date/location. All of which were replied to and agreed on. This was a complete mistake on their behalf due to poor organization. They made it seem like it was our fault in the comment below. In that comment as well they said the food was made twice for us, if that is the case they made it wrong twice as our reception hasn't even happened yet. With all the confusion, a new email was sent with everything they needed to know. We got confirmation emails after this with the date, time and location WRONG when they had it all in writing. They took days to reply to us voicing our concerns and we are just days away from the event which made us really worry. We had lost all faith that they were going to make it to the correct location on the correct day and time. We had no choice but to go with another company. It's been a stressful 2 weeks with this company leading up to our event. With the inconvenience and all things considered we asked for a refund on our deposit and got no reply back, we so are assuming that's a no which is super unfortunate as we did nothing wrong in...
Read moreI did a food review on this place had a chat with Paula the owner she’s got a good 17 years of experience, Tenant culinary school and had kitchens and Thailand, Mexico and other parts of Canada. A lot of passion and creativity goes into her food. She also runs a food truck here in Halifax as well. I had the smoked sausage which is smoked right there on site. It came with sauerkraut. I got the pineapple habanero pico everything is homemade. I had to pull pork taco I told her I like spicy spicy food. She actually created her own spicy sauce, which was fantastic. I had the Ruben sandwich which is one of their most popular items marble rye bread lots of sauerkraut homemade thousand island dressing. This was so so good meat was so tender and juicy, I had pulled pork sliders which had homemade coleslaw. Cabbage barbeque sauce is all homemade not hot sauce has reaper ghost pepper has a great kick to it. The next one was the Bohn-Mi Kan with Seasoned pork, shoe string, carrots, cilantro, radish . Read moreI have eaten Rueben sandwiches from many different places over the years as it is my favorite sytle of sandwich. When I heard East Coast Smokehouse had a Rueben I had to try it. My honest review of their Rueben is as follows:
The brisket was delicious. Hands down the best that I have had to date!
The quantity of meat was lacking compared to other places I have tried. However adding more meat at the same pricepoint would make it hard for me to stay away.
The rye bread used was dissapointing. It was quite thin and not being grilled the juices from the brisket made the bread soft/soggy and it basically fell apart.
Recommendation: Please consider changing your rye bread to a thicker marble rye and please, please, please grill the bread before the sandwich assembly. This will help to hold the sandwich together and gives a nice crispy bite. That combined with more of your amazing brisket and people will be lined up down Sackville Drive. You have the most difficult part figured out, but you just need to fine tune the sandwich making skills, and you will have the best sandwich in the city!
On another note my daughter tried their poutine...
