Some places try to create an air of tradition by using words like "Olde" or "Ye" in their name, or hanging fake pioneer carriage wheels on the walls. The Trail Eatery doesn't need to do any of that. Originally called The Bruce Trail Eatery, this staple of Campbellville has been serving hikers and locals for decades, without losing its unpretentious, down-to-earth origins.
The place is furnished with solid wood tables, and has one long bench to accommodate a group of twelve. Large windows on two sides provide plenty of natural light, and noise level is reasonable at 63dB(A). The counter-order, table-serve system works well, and tables have ample elbow room between them.
The atmosphere is relaxed and convivial, with the friendly staff quick and efficient without creating a sense of hurriedness. The menu goes well beyond conventional roadside diner fare, covering a wide range of pastas, sandwiches, pizzas, fish and chicken dishes, and an ever changing selection of freshly baked pies and pastries, as well as an in-house ice-cream stand.
Everything we tried was excellent. The chicken parmesan sandwich was succulent, the generous portion of fish was fresh, and the quesadilla as good as any you'd find in a Tex-Mex place. The desserts aren't an afterthought like at many places. This place would thrive even if it only sold its pies, ice cream, and amazing brownies.
Prices are very reasonable, with breakfasts between $7 and $11, sandwiches and wraps $7-$12, mains $10-$14, and kids' meals $6.50. They offer a dozen different domestic beers in bottles ($5), as well as a couple of house red and white wines by the glass.
There's plenty of parking, easy wheelchair access and seating, but the washrooms are not wheelchair-accessible. Credit and...
Read moreWe live in the area. We have been coming here for a while and have enjoyed supporting local businesses being crushed by an unjust government. We were pleased to see 7-8 people working here! Very honourable of the employer who clearly did not have enough business to warrant needing more than 4 of them. So, we decided to leave a tip even though we were just going in for take-out. We noticed a member of staff moving in and out of the kitchen, handling food, without a mask on (which we are fine with) and another customer sitting eating and coughing constantly (which we were also fine with) , so I decided to pull my mask down while I waited as it was difficult to breathe and it seemed like they didn't mind. Out from the back came a young and very heavy-set woman just to harass me for standing and not having my face covered. "You have to put your mask on if you are standing, sir." Strange that she did not think to ask if I was ok or if I had any health concerns that would prevent me from needing it. Just straight on offence. Very disrespectful. I wonder if she realizes that far more people die from cardiovascular disease, heart attacks and strokes on a yearly basis than a pathetic flu-like virus. Oh well. You can't educate everyone though. Perhaps she should considering going for a run and stop eating their pizza, which I would give a 5/10 for quality and value. Your rules are NOT just for your customers. They are for YOUR staff too. Enjoy your CRB when you submit to your lockdowns AGAIN. They don't care about you. They never will....

This quaint and charming spot was the perfect way to cap off a lovely day. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, and the staff were incredibly welcoming, making me feel right at home the moment I walked in.
The menu offered a great variety, catering to different tastes and preferences. Everything was reasonably priced, providing excellent value for the quality of food served. I opted for the Greek Omelette which surprisingly came with a choice of soup which turned out to be a delicious and hearty meal that exceeded my expectations. The portions were generous, and the presentation was delightful, with fresh ingredients that clearly stood out.
In addition to the main courses, The Trail Eatery also offers a selection of homemade desserts that are simply irresistible. (Maybe next time- the meal was so filling- there was no room!)
The overall experience at The Trail Eatery was exceptional. The warm and friendly atmosphere, combined with the excellent food and reasonable prices, makes it a must-visit if you're in the area. Whether you're visiting Kelso Lavender Farms or just passing through Campbelle, The Trail Eatery is a wonderful place to relax, enjoy great food, and soak in the charm of this lovely town. Highly...
