We went there twice over 3 days. Dinner the first time - we arrived at 530 and there were 3 other groups seated already (1 right before we arrived) and then it quickly filled up. She promptly took our orders but it was a bit slow coming out. We ordered a Caesar side salad (delicious), penned Alfredo (tasty, large serving that we brought most of in a take away container, kids penned with butter and cheese - this wasn't very good as the noodles didn't seem cooked enough. Poutine was good, chicken Caesar wrap was enjoyed as was my BLT (I asked for an added fried egg into the sandwich and it was really good). Some other reviewer said they were shorted on bacon, I had plenty and it was real bacon not the microwave type.I enjoyed the fries that were on the side too. The only real downside was the wait time to get the food, our takeaway Container and the bill - I attribute that to the lone waitress not having another person helping out as it was quick busy - waitress was great, just needed another one helping out so it wasn't all on her shoulders. Breakfast today, not as busy this morning, everything was pretty quick - only downside was there was no steak that hubby was hoping to order (steak and eggs) so he got the grand slam breakfast platter which he enjoyed. Two of us ordered French toast (delicious!) 1 plate of pancakes (3 HUGE!) and a kids pancake (1 HUGE!) with a sausage that we asked to change to bacon which was no problem. Wished all of the breakfast items were available all day.

The 50's Diner is my go to stop in when in Minden. The food has always been good, the portions are generous and the pricing for the food seems very fair for what you get. I have visited probably 6 times over the last year or so when I am in town. Unfortunately the service has taken a dive the last couple of visits which is disappointing. My last visit I waited over 10 minutes before I was even acknowledged. There were probably 6 tables occupied with two waitresses. It seems they are more focuses on chatting with the tables and themselves. Once I was able to order the service was good and I even received a check back to make sure I had everything. Overall the atmosphere and the food are always consistent. The service definitely leaves something to be desired. I 100% understand if the restaurant is full I don't mind waiting at all. When the restaurant is 1/3 full with two people working the service needs to improve quite a bit in my opinion.

Our party of 8 needed to be at work at 11 am. Arrived at the Minden 50s Diner at 9:30 am. Two tables were already occupied. Was served coffee within 10 minutes. The 2 tables quickly emptied and more tables filled. Waitress didn’t take our orders till around 10 am. Other people who arrived after us were served and had left while we patiently waited for our food. At 10:30 summoned the waitress and reminded her that we needed our meals because we need to be at work at 11. She snapped, “Can’t you see the place is full?” It clearly wasn’t full when we arrived a full hour earlier. Our meals were served by a different waitress at 10:40. See pic of overcooked Classic Breakfast they brought me. The dark lumps are supposed to be home fries. Most of our group ended up having to take theirs to go. I ran out of time and took my bacon with me in a napkin. The whole experience was truly awful. I would work on an empty stomach before going back.

I have been here several times without any issues. Last Sunday I brought my friend and my 3 kids for takeout. Once we got back and started eating my friend pulled something out of her mouth and was actually chewing on what looked like a name tag pin! While she was calling to tell the staff what happened I searched the food and found another one in a separate container of food! Over the phone the staff basically called us liars and kept stating they don’t have pins. Once being told they don’t have time to deal with us, the phone was passed off and we were told to come in so they could see what we were talking about. We drove the 20 minutes one way back to the restaurant and they took the food to the back. I could see all the staff basically saying they don’t have those pins so we were lying. I kept telling them we needed answers. My youngest child is two and could have easily swallowed it and no one would have noticed. My friend demanded at least a refund. One of the waitresses (an older woman) was literally laughing at us. The other waitress (younger with glasses) had no clue how to refund and kept swearing in front of my kids and telling us to shut up because she had no clue what she was doing. All staff refused to inform the manager/owner and did not give us their names. We didn’t get a single apology for what happened. My friend stated we should also be reimbursed for gas and some teenage boy came running out of the kitchen screaming at us to “have a nice drive back”. After how this entire situation was treated I contacted the police. I had taken a picture of the pins found in the food (posted in the picture portion for this restaurant) and the officer is the one who apologized and said the place has a bad reputation. News to anyone who does not live in the area! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND...

Went with a family of 10 for lunch on 5 July. The food and service were reasonable and served in a timely way. Caesar salad tasted more like mayo than Caesar dressing but overall the BLT, poutines, and fish and chips were decent. The restaurant was very hot and stuffy with no air conditioning - maybe a relic from the 50s???

The problems started after the meal. We packed up the poutines to eat later and found a stone in it which my son chewed on and almost broke his tooth. I went back the next day to give them the poutine and show them the stone. When I arrived, I approached the waitress who served us the day before and she was immediately dismissive when I told her what had happened. I let her know that I wasn’t there for any compensation but just to let them know. She insisted that it didn’t come from their kitchen and that it must have been our fault that the stone got in there. While we were sure there was no way it could have gotten in there after we left, it was too late to prove otherwise. That said, I was surprised and disappointed that she was immediately dismissive and didn’t apologise - it was just an immediate defensive and dismissive exchange.

I met up with the owner later at the DQ next door. He listened to my concerns and was genuinely sincere in his apology and offered to make things right which was appreciated. Again, we weren’t looking for anything, but just wanted them to know what had happened, to be heard and validated. The manager did this well but the...
