Worst restaurant experience in years!
I am in town, visiting Mission, and a friend recommended this place as she often gets take-out from this restaurant. We arrive at 8:45 pm and there are only two tables occupied. We are told by the server that they close at 9:30. That wasn't a problem for us.
We decide on our order and tell the server we are going to order a lot of food but only because we want a lot of left-overs for home. We order 6 or 7 dishes between us two. At 9:15, I tell my friend that since they are closing in 15 minutes, we should take whatever else we want on the table, put it on our plates and then have the server come and wrap up the rest. This was a courtesy on our part. When the server comes to our table, we begin to tell him to go ahead and clear off the table but he responds that that is exactly why he had come to our table. (Huh?!? Fifteen minutes before closing he comes to our table to clear off everything?)
So he takes away the extra plates while we continue on our own plates and then he comes back and without asking...TAKES MY PLATE AWAY!!! Now granted, I didn't have a lot on my plate but I was not finished and was working on it. (This had to be around 9:20.) I sat there stunned and my friend just looked at me shocked.
So at 9:25, a woman starts vacuuming. At this time, I was working on my fortune cookie and reading the horoscope while my friend was finishing off her plate. The server leans over the wall on the other side of our table and tells us we have to leave now. STUNNED!!! I asked him, "Well, don't you close at 9:30?" He said, "Yes." I asked him what time he had and he said, "9:25". (!!!) I said, "That's right, and you close at 9:30." He told us that we had to leave now as they were closing up, they needed five minutes to vacuum the floor, and there was a sign on the door stating something or other about this policy. I looked at my friend in disbelief. We had ordered almost $80 of food between the two of us. I had just placed $90 on the money tray. I immediately took back $10. This was going to be one of a very few times in my life where I was not going to be leaving a tip at a restaurant.
After exiting the establishment, I looked on the door. Yes, there was a sign that read you had to arrive 45 minutes before closing. HOWEVER, there was nothing that read that you have to leave BEFORE closing time!
Going home, I was still ticked off. If you are going to accept customers at your eating establishment, then you need to give them time to finish their meal. That is standard practice all over. And never, NEVER, do you kick out clients BEFORE your closing time. That's ridiculous!!! Had we been disruptive, drunk, disorderly...I could have understood. But that was not the case. We were polite, courteous and quite cognizant of the time they were closing up. I will not go back...
Read moreMy roommate decided to order some food from Mandarin Palace. I can tell you it was absolutely disgusting. The order came to $100 which included a tip. The food that was ordered was chicken wings, chicken balls, special fried rice, chicken, chow mein, and wonton soup now for the review, the chicken wings were completely soggy and dripping in oil. The chicken chow mein again was very soggy very overcooked, and there was no chicken in the chicken chow mein And the special fried rice was gluey and pastie ,I think the only thing that my roommate and myself didn’t mind was the wontons and they were just fair. They weren’t fabulous when I called to let them know that their food was unacceptable. They started an argument by the I’m assuming manager or the chef whichever one it was, he did not offer a refund a debate, a credit not even a can of pop. He told me that all the reviews he gets are really good and that I’m wrong is what he said, and he came up with a whole bunch of excuses and I’m completely unsatisfied. I definitely do not recommend ordering from the mandarin Palace. I’m not sure what happened because they used to be a good place but they’re no longer good at all they’re actually pretty disgusting.🤮 Whatever happens to listening to the customers? I let him know that he will probably end up like that Bear Country Bakery and end up closing they’re doors due to not caring about what the customer has to say. $100.00 tossed in the garbage Shame on you Manderine Palace for serving...
Read moreAverage food. Service isn't that great. It's hit or miss with the food. Some times it's awesome, some times it isn't edible. We decided to stop eating here because we didn't like those odds. The meat is always really gnarly and full of fat. I spit out more than I swallow.
We live 45 minutes away, this is the closest place to us. Last time i was there I ordered dinner for 6 people and when I picked it up the hostess handed me one bag. I asked if that was everything. She said yes. The bag was only half full and it didn't seem like much food so I asked again if she was sure that was everything. She insisted it was. I went out to my vehicle and pulled everything out of the bag. Half of it was missing. I went back in and she said "oh, I guess there was a second bag. I explained that it was an hour and a half round trip to get that food for my family and her error could've cost me another HOUR AND A HALF trip. She didn't seem to care at all.
The restaurant is old and run down. There aren't usually very many people there so there's no wait to be seated. I've never sat down in the restaurant to eat, I've always gotten take out. I guess I'd still recommend it if you want Chinese. We don't have many options in Mission and the others...
