Incredible quaint sized Japanese Korean restaurant made a huge impression. Located in a plaza on the West side of Winston Churchill Blvd. just North of Dundas St. W. in Mississauga, Dai Ichi Sushi Japanese Restaurant prepares an excellent array of Japanese and Korean fare sure to please the palate of the most discerning connoisseur of Aisian cuisine. A family run business since 2001, this long standing restaurant knows how to check all the boxes with respect to ensuring excellent customer satisfaction. Firstly, their menu selection is somewhat extensive with a good selection of lunch and dinner items, specialty rolls, sashimi, sushi, and udon soups. The price points are very reasonable which range from moderate and competitive with other Japanese restaurants, to expensive and yet in line accordingly with market prices for food items such as Blue Fin Tuna. The food quality made a very big impression with us. We selected the Bulgogi and Spicy Bulgogi lunch specials and were imediately impressed by the quality of the beef. It was definitely top grade and most likely AAA, tender melt-in-your-mouth, lean cut, superbly prepared and absolutely delicious. Tempura vegetables may have been breaded in a panko mix which resulted in a well balanced taste of vegetable and batter, and possessed a small residual amount of oil from the deep frying process but without the aftertaste commonly experienced with deep fried foods. The quality of the food sampled was outstanding and is definitely reason enough to visit this restaurant and enjoy their food offerings that are unmistakingly prepared with pride. However, unlike some Japanese restaurants located throughout the GTA, value-for-money was dissapointedly lacking. Presented in a bento box, the quantity of bean sprouts was exceptionally small, and the serving size of noodles and green beans were inadequate. The amount of rice appeared to be about half the amount we would typically receive at other Asian restaurants. Though Miso soup was served with our selections, other food items such as salads and California rolls were not included with the bento box meals that we would normally receive elsewhere. Keep in mind that some of these food items are to serve as condiments to, or act as a compliment to the main meal item. In all fairness, it should be emphasized that the opinion shared here is subjective and should in no way detract from the excellent food quality we experienced. The overall ambience of the restaurant easily transports you across the Pacific to a traditional Japanese styled setting aimed toward providing patrons with a memorable dining experience. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing with light wood trim and Japanese styled decor incorporated throughout. The booths and priviate dining room areas provide a feeling of warmth, intimacy and comfort. The overall interior design is inviting and successfully utilizes a Japanese motif that makes it very distinct from so many restaurants today that feel sterile, and absent of character. Last but not least is customer service. As a long-standing family run business it is quite apparent that their people skills and understanding of hospitality management is well hoaned. All staff were very well mannered, coradial, attentive, and most importantly, friendly. We observed many smiles, a willingness to get to know patrons, and the overall consistent delivery of an excellent level of service to customers. As stated earlier, Dai Ichi definitely knows how to check all the boxes with respect to being and excellent restaurant. Overall, where they may be lacking in value for money with some dishes, they more than make up for it with the high level of food quality and preparation, food taste and freshness, the restaurant ambience, and excellent customer service. Excellent.

Went here for dinner with family and was lucky to get a table before it got busy. Making a reservation is a must I guess? We ordered grilled mackerel, takoyaki, fried soft shell crab, pork bone soup, sushi combo set (30 pieces), and Dai ichi dinner with bulgogi. The grilled mackerel was flavourful but I'd definitely recommend putting the lemon provided for added freshness. The pork bone soup was delicious! Better than Owl of Minerva and Song Cook's pork bone soup which was a pleasant surprise as these restaurants are fully Korean food focused in comparison to Dai Ichi which is a combination of Japanese and Korean. The soft shell crab was flaky and delicious. Though my sister found the plating to be a bit morbid, lol. The biggest disappointment for us was the sushi set. We didn't really know what it had but wanted to try it nonetheless. It had too much tuna which our party didn't really like due to our preferences. Maybe making the features clearer on the menu would help in terms of ordering and less food waste?

My cousin's grandson had his baptismal celebration at Dai Ichi Japanese Restaurant. We started off with Vegetable Spring Rolls and Yaki Gyoza. I ordered the special set dinner Ume - assorted sashimi, 6 pieces of California Roll, Shrimp and Vegetable tempura, Beef Teriyaki and rice. This was perfect because I got everything that I want and they were all so delicious. The beef was grilled, well seasoned and tender and the teriyaki sauce added more flavour. My sister had Take - 6 pieces California Roll, Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura, Chicken Teriyaki and rice. Her chicken was also grilled and tasted so good. All special set dinners came with Miso Soup. The house teriyaki sauce on the grilled meat, fish, vegetables was really good and tasteful. I liked that their teriyaki food items are grilled before adding the teriyaki sauce which enhances the flavour of the dish. Service was excellent and fast, price reasonable, place is clean.

Dai Ichi has great sashimi party trays. The last 2 orders were fresh and ready for pick-up on time. Along with the sashimi trays, I ordered a Kalbi dinner and a Veggie Dragon roll. The Kalbi was delicious - not too much fat on the ribs. The Veggie roll was delicious - squash tempura was crispy and tender. My family enjoyed the food.

The second time I ordered the same dishes with the sashimi tray. The quality was the opposite to the first take-out. The Kalbi ribs were 90% fat! I was shocked. For $30 Dai Ichi gave me fat and meatless bones. Shameful. The Veggie roll was bad, too. The squash tempura was cold, hard and stale. How do you mess up tempura?

I don't understand what happened. I'm just disappointed that it did.

Update: I just learned that my parents went to dine-in 2 days ago. At 3pm the place was almost empty. After placing the order, the service was terrible. No banchan was given just a bowl of miso soup. My father had to ask for some. As they were eating, the server never came over to ask if they needed anything. When they did, they rang the bell for service but it took so long. My 80 year old parents felt very disrespected. Korean culture is based on respecting elders. Shame on her. My parents will not return to this restaurant. Between the bad takeout and bad dining experiences, I cannot...
