I've heard about this place from my SIL in the past but never visited until recently and I'm happy we did.
Everything was a solid 5 from start to finish.
The restaurant has a very nice vibe and the young lady who took our order was very friendly and polite. It was a take out order. The second time we called in our order and again, the young lady was very patient and accommodated us.
We got jerk chicken poutine, oxtail with rice and peas and a curry goat and white rice. First of all I have never even considered jerk chicken and poutine as a dish would taste so good. It was fire 🔥
It wasn't overly spicy but it was definitely flavourful. Everything worked in this dish. We loved it so much we ordered it a second time and again it did not disappoint.
The oxtail with rice and peas was amazing. First of all let me say this....many Jamaican restaurants add sugar to their oxtail and it alters the flavour. It's good but a tad sweeter than I like. This oxtail was prepared the way my mom used to make it. It was rich and hearty and very savoury and more akin to the traditional style of oxtail. The gravy was a beautiful dark and thick colour and consistency which married well with the rice and peas to soak in all that earthy, rich creaminess.
The curry goat was also very good, it was a tad salty for my palate. That being said, I don't cook with additional salt as many seasonings already contain salt so I'm more sensitive to salt.
The meat in both dishes were cooked till tender, soft and melt in your mouth.
We chose coleslaw as the side and it was delicious. Again, very reminiscent of the way the dish is prepared back home and it added a nice refreshing, a tad sweetened balance to the savoury of the meat dishes.
On our second visit we added mild patties to the order and they were very good. Nice temperature, crisp and flaky crust and a nice meat filled.
The first visit was such a great experience we needed to try it again to ensure it would live up to the hype we were giving it. Both times we were highly satisfied.
The prices are very good and the portions were also very good. You definitely get your money's worth.
I will definitely be visiting...
Read moreLord have mercy on my soul. I was so hungry yesterday I decided to stop and get a curried goat . I decided to dine in. First the goat wasn't freshly prepared. Tasted the peas and rice. It too was stale. I thought that was bad. I saw a dead roach on the chair next to me. The another one was alive right next to me. Never again would I go back.
To the Owner. Thanks for your response. Please don't tell me about freshness. I know stale rice&Peas and sour goat. I could have said something yesterday but I just told myself I would never come back . Yes you probably maintain the building but I have all rights to voice my complain and concerns.
To add to your ignorance you are trying to insult me by wishing me God's richest blessings for the New Year. I do believe in God but Where does that fit in. Ask yourself this one question . If you walked into a restaurant and had that experience what would you have done. Based on your response. You would have cursed and behave badly. My words to you. Learn to throw away stale food. !!!!! Rice is so cheap and I got stale rice too. Fix it before people get sick!!! I could have called the health department. But I am not a vindictive person. I came on here for you to see the nature of what took place. Social media is a place to get your...
Read moreI drive by this restaurant regularly. This weekend, I decided to stop and pick up dinner after work for my son and I (I’m a regular at a neighbouring Caribbean restaurant). Seeing as my regular spot was closed, I figured this is the best time to finally try this place.
To sum it up , the food was decent. My issue is with the atmosphere inside. It was very awkward with only four men sitting there. There was a gentleman sitting right by the cashier (I assume he must be a friend because he was very comfortable), who wouldn’t stop trying to talk to me even after I declined, stating that I’m married. I tried to be cordial but he would just continue speaking about women in a very inappropriate way, and at one point saying to me “I just wanna kiss you”.
It was so repulsive to me that I just left. Truth be told I couldn’t even finish the dinner as I was very frustrated.
NOTE TO MANAGEMENT: Please do not allow male bar patrons to harass women simply coming in for a meal. Next time, I highly encourage someone to step in, in order to maintain a professional environment for all.
It’s worth the try, but I highly advise female customers of the possibility of unwanted...
