Short review: Go to the store and treat yourself, you will not be disappointed.
Long review: I drove across the city to get a strawberry short cake, however they were sold out. The sweet girl at the store offered to place an order for the next day and I agreed however was still second guessing as it would mean I would have to drive back again the next day. Still walked out with chocolate 2 brownies and 2 fruit tarts. The next day I go to store looking for those chocolate brownies, I even forget about the strawberry short cake as those chocloate brownies that we had were heavenly. However they were missing from the display counter and my heart sank, but the staff had me covered. They suggested me to wait for 5 mins and I can get my chocolate brownies......Thank God. So they remind me of the strawberry short cake which I almost forget and pick up an apple pie along with it. Now I am not expert on cakes or pies however I know good stuff when I eat - I have a fair bit of experience devouring some of the best tasting cakes. That cake and pie was shared by 7-8 diffrent people, every one had only one question - where did you get it from? This was one of the best cakes I have had. I am not sure what the negative reviews are all about and I bring that up as I heavily depend on them specifically if I have to drive out of way to get a cake, my humble suggestion is to visit the place yourselves they are a little on pricier side but you get more than what you pay for, plus the experince with the staff is...
Read moreI've been away for at least 6 years. I was looking forward to visit this lovely little spot as it brings many memories. I visited 2 weeks ago but unfortunately didn't buy anything. I was shocked with the actual presentation as well as selection of the pastry display. I used to have a colleague at work who lived near this pastry shop. He would spoiled us every week with a full box of freshly prepared florentine cookies, chocolate eclairs or millefeuilles "1000 leaves" from this patisserie shop. To get scones, pies, muffins or quiche you can go to any grocery store such as Longo's or Fortinos. This place looks now like a cafeteria counter which offers rather very expensive coffee and hot chocolate. In order to charge a fair amount of money for a hot beverage, a customer should be able to get the best quality product that complements such a drink. What was unique about Le Delice Pastry shop in my times was the craftsmanship of their pastries. Ideally you need 2 days to make croissants. It is not about the size of the croissants but rather crisp and flaky texture on the outside and well defined layers, and a soft, airy, buttery inside. I will always miss the old Le Delice Pastry Shop. I would like to suggest an excellent book by L.J.Hannenman titled "Patisserie". Both the owner as well the practising patissier at Le Delice Patry shop will find there knowledge to help them to excel in this attractive branch of baker's art....
Read moreI don't get the reviews other than to say that the people writing them have either never really been to or experienced a truly good, first class French bakery. Or even a decent French bakery for that matter! Their baked goods are second rate at best here - the pecan pie we had was absolutely terrible. Over baked lard crust and the cheapest filling that would compare to nothing more than eating crystallized sugar. Utter disappointment. Their croissants were also brutal - not even close to resembling a French croissant as they were bready oversized pieces of dough. Move to the muffins and when asked for butter was charged 50 cents and laughed (while paying it). More disappointment as the pumpkin spice was lacking pumpkin and spice. What's going on here?? The sugar cookies looked great and low and behold were tasteless flour and not a hint of butter to be found.. that was the 'icing' on the cake.. (and luckily for us we didn't try their cake and waste money on that too). All in all, definitely will not go back and truly do not understand how this shop has been here for as long as it has with the lack of taste and quality in their baked goods. Shocking to say the least and shows that mediocrity is alive and well...
