My fiance and I decided to try this place out after seeing a few great reviews. When we first entered the restaurant, there was only 1 table of 3 people seated. We were greeted instantly by a young Vietnamese man who we later found out was the owner. He invited us to sit wherever we would like. The atmosphere is very basic and has a feel of a cheap take-out or dinner, with old fashioned stainless steel napkin dispensers, salt and pepper and sauce bottle on the tables. We made the choice to sit in a booth and the owner quickly brought us venues. It didn't take us long to decide what we wanted and as we sat there waiting for the owner to come back and take out order, another couple came in and were invited to sit where they would like they explained they were getting take-out and the owner (who BTW was alone in the dinning room), struck up a conversation with them. As we say there and waited about another 10 minutes for him to come take our order, he kept a conversation going with that couple and took their order. By the time he came to our table, he had finished taking their order and putting it into the kitchen. We ordered spring rolls as an appetizer (2 rolls for $7.98). While waiting for those to come out, he brought us some cold tea that wasn't very good and some pickled papaya and carrot. That dish was delicious! When the spring rolls came out, they looked so good and our taste buds agreed strongly with what we saw. They were just about the best spring rolls either of us have ever had. My Fiance ordered a medium sizef Pho Tai Lan ($16.98) and I picked the Pho Dan Special ($16.98). We were both very disappointed with the level of flavor in the pho. It didn'ttatse bad, but the flavor level was incredibly low. Even though the owner had already told us that that Housin sauce and sriracha sauce on the table are not traditional North Vietnam things to add to pho, we really needed both in order to get some kind of flavor. The owner was not at all attentive to us and left us for long periods while he went to the kitchen to cook. Each time he came back to the dining room. He would attend to others and left us. He didn't as if we would like something else to drink and didn't ask if we enjoyed the tea. When wer finished our meal, we say for about 15 minutes waiting for the before I got up and went looking for him and the bill. If we go back, it will only be for the...
Read moreI recently visited this place after two of my friends recommended it, and I have to say it was a really satisfying experience.
We ordered the Hanoi Bun Cha, the Special Dan Vermicelli, the Rice Special, and the Pho Tai Lan. The portions were generous and overall, everything tasted great. The highlight for me was definitely the pork from the Rice Special — it was incredibly tender and flavorful. The owner brought out hot sauce, garlic, bean sprouts, cilantro, and lime on the side with the pho, and even explained how they’re usually eaten. I really liked that touch. As I added black pepper and the different garnishes little by little, the flavor changed each time. It felt fun, almost like I was tasting several different dishes in one, which made the whole meal even more enjoyable.
The owner himself served us and gave the impression that he genuinely cares about his customers. He checked if we had questions about the menu and made sure we felt comfortable. That kind of attentiveness was nice to see, though I think he doesn’t need to use up so much of his energy on customer service — the good food already speaks for itself.
This is an honest review written with the hope that this restaurant continues to do well for a long time. Overall, I was very satisfied and would be happy to come back to try more...
Read moreThis was the best pho we’ve ever had in our lives — and we’ve tried pho in every state we’ve traveled through! The food here was absolutely extraordinary. It tasted different from other places, but in the best way — much more authentic.
Usually, pho broth is kind of watery and light on flavor, but here the broth itself was rich and deeply flavorful, with a real beef taste that shows how well it’s cooked. The owner himself is the one who serves the food, and that adds so much to the experience — he’s incredibly kind, welcoming, and takes great care of every customer.
He explained to us that he cooks the pho broth for 36 hours, and you can absolutely taste the difference. The pho here was much, much better than anywhere else we’ve been. We were just passing through, so we only got to eat here once, but we truly wish we could be regulars!
Everything was perfect — even the sauces. Instead of just the two usual ones you find everywhere, he also serves two traditional northern Vietnamese sauces, which make it even more authentic and delicious.
We’ll remember this place as the best pho we’ve ever had — not sweet, just perfectly balanced, rich, and full of...
