Bacaro
I had read some of the reviews before coming to this place and it seems that the restaurant really is consistently passable but not more. We went on a Monday night when it wasn’t busy assuming the “slow service” would not be an issue.
The menu is moderately priced for portion sizes, especially the appetizers. The arancini (risotto balls) was delicious and had a great tomato sauce on the side for dipping. Also on the appetizer menu is a brushed oil/garlic/rosemary bread. The restaurant itself doesn’t serve any bread to the table and we were told we’d have to order another appetizer bread if anyone wanted side-bread with their meals.
The salmon was undercooked and served with vegetables that didn’t go, including olives, mushrooms and zucchini.
The pizza ZAZA was excellent- a good size and lots of meat for the price.
We also had two orders of gnocchi, one with alfredo sauce and one with rosé sauce. The alfredo was bland and almost flavourless, and the gnocchi was unfortunately over-garlicked though the pasta themselves were well made and cooked.
The service was friendly and attentive but when the server cleared plates her uniform top not only touched but was touching long enough to push the wine glass along the table as she had to lean to clear plates (glass was still half-full). Icky.
Dessert was DELICIOUS. If I recommend this place it would be only as a stop in for dessert as 3/4 guests were disappointed in their entrees in our group. We ordered the brownie which was very rich and a good size for sharing. We also ordered the fritters which came with the perfect amount of Nutella.
After the dessert dishes were cleared our waitress disappeared and the entire restaurant was empty for approximately 15 minutes until she returned with the bills in hand.
Overall, I won’t be coming back to this place again and I wouldn’t recommend it to others save if they’re just looking for dessert. The decor was nice but the food was disappointing and for the price of our bill we could have gone to many other places with food that’s more delicious and service that’s...
Read moreI visited this restaurant twice in one week, both with very different experiences, which I would like to elaborate in order for the situation not to happen to others. On Tuesday, I went before the hockey game with a friend, and was nicely served by Erin, who informed us of all promotions ($10 pizzas as well as the drink menu). Walked out of there very pleased. Yesterday, however, was a different story. We were served by Leanne. Dinning was fine. When it came to paying the tab, I noticed that my pizza was not $10. I asked why, and was shocked with the answer. I had to let her know in advance, because the pizzas they make for the discount are not the same as if you were to pay full price. I told her about being there on Tuesday, and how I really enjoyed my pizza, didn't notice anything different in comparison to the one I had just finished, and would like the discount. She said she couldn't reprocess my bill and that I would have to wait 40 minutes for a manager, as there was none on duty at that moment. No manager on a Saturday night? That doesn't seem right... Also, she mentioned that the promotion doesn't run on Saturdays, yet the sign was right outside, with no fine print as to when it runs specifically. All to say, I paid my tab and left. Unhappy with the experience unfortunately this time around, and don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. This was poor customer service at it's finest. If I could get back the $8 + tax that was spent uselessly, I would. But I don't think that'll be possible... Therefore, warning to all you students who head there, don't always believe what you...
Read moreI will be hard pressed to return to this venue. A friend & I went for their Tuesday "2 Girls & 1 Pitcher" and opted instead for their $12 table d'hote lunch. We waited for our water...there were 3 other clients in the restaurant. We were informed that the soup was not available on the table d'hote. My panino came with no prosciutto. When I asked the waitress if I was wrong in thinking that what was offered came with prosciutto, she was confused and had to find out (although it was printed on the menu). Then I said, I wanted a price reduction if I wasn't getting the prosciutto. She'd have to find out, as she wasn't able to make that decision. A few minutes later, I was presented with a bowl of prosciutto (such a NICE presentation! - NOT!). My lunch companion wanted one of the advertised Nutella desserts, only to be told that the company offering the Nutella based desserts was no longer supplying them. Take if off the menu for pity's sake! I had ordered a Pizza Gigi to take home; I told the waitress that I would be checking to make sure the prosciutto was actually on the pizza. (It was...sparse, but there). I feel sorry for that girl. Clearly Bacaro Pizzeria on Monkland is sliding (or perhaps only during the lunch time period). Check your meal to ensure that you get what you...
