We came to Montreal on a one-day trip and after visiting a few places, we searched for lunch spots. When I googled “Kerala(most beautiful state in India)food Montreal,” this place showed up with an impressive 4.9-star rating. The name caught my eye – Cabane (which means “hut” in French) – and I later realized it translates beautifully to Biryani Hut.

This hidden little treasure is tucked inside the food court of a mall, but don’t let the location fool you – the food is outstanding.

We ordered chicken biryani, mutton biryani, and Kerala porotta (a layered flatbread) with beef curry. The biryani was fragrant with ghee (clarified butter), the rice perfectly cooked, and the meat tender and flavourful. Unlike the spicier North Indian basmati biryanis, Kerala biryani is more delicate, with the flavours centred around the meat and its gravy rather than the rice itself. It’s mildly spiced, aromatic, and comforting – ideal if you enjoy balanced flavours rather than overwhelming heat.

The real surprise was the Kerala porotta. It’s the best I’ve had in Canada – soft, flaky, and made fresh in the traditional way (not from frozen dough like many places). Paired with the rich, home-style beef curry, it was a perfect match.

What makes this spot extra special is that it’s run by a family, not just staff working for a paycheck. You can feel the passion and love in the food. It has that “cooked at home” warmth, which is rare to find when you’re far away from Kerala.

If you’re curious to try authentic South Indian comfort food, this is a must-visit. Don’t expect heavy spices or restaurant “fusion” flavours – this is homestyle cooking with heart. A must...

We were missing an Authentic Kerala cuisine restaurant in Montreal, and we found this place while searching on google. Though the restaurant is in Mall food court, we loved the food we got. We had Chicken & Mutton (Lamb) Biryani at the food court and then packed the Casava Biryani (Beef) for takeaway, all items were excellent. The chicken was well cooked and flavourful and so was the Mutton, and all of them nicely spiced. The Rice was tasty and unlike the typical Basmati Rice Biryani, we had the South Indian Rice which did not make us feel stuffy. Next time we will try the Parotta and Beef curry. Not many options for vegetarians, but overall...

A Taste of Kerala Right Here!

Wow, what a delightful surprise! Cabane à Biryani feels like stepping into a cozy Kerala kitchen. Their Kerala biriyani is absolutely mouthwatering - each bite tells a story of tradition and love. The spices are perfectly balanced, the rice is fluffy, and you can tell every dish is prepared with real passion. Whether you're a biriyani enthusiast or just looking to try something amazing, this place will not disappoint. Friendly staff and authentic flavours make this a must-visit spot. Can't wait...

I just came from a long drive from timmins Was so hungry searched for biriyani store On the way we went in the mall and saw the store what’s the best was they had 3 variety’s of biriyani we ordered chicken and Mutton we were so surprised with the authentic taste after almost 2 years we got the best biriyani even though they just started few months back they stole our heart the pickle reminded of the touch of ancestral recepie the meat was so tender and the aroma is worth morethan thousand words its a must recommended place
