$11 down the drain for a box of 30 terrible loukoumades. I've loved Mr. Puffs in Laval for years now and the minute I noticed that a new Mr. Puffs had set up shop a little closer to home at Marché Central, I jumped at the chance to bring some of the delectable little dough balls home. Little did I know that I was in store for a major let-down. I should have realized when they were being pulled out of the fryer that they were too dark, lacking that lovely golden hue I was accustomed to, and that they wouldn't live up to my expectations. I don't know if the oil wasn't hot enough or if the oil they were fried in was too old but whatever the case may be, no amount of honey or caramel drizzle could have possibly masked the awful, rancid, oily flavour of those puffs I purchased last night. After having this initial experience at Mr. Puffs Marché Central, I think I'll stick to making the extra effort to drive to the Laval location or even making a short trip down to Loukouman on Jarry...
Read moreOn this particular day after soup at Pho My My, I was unable to resist Mr. Puffs The fresh, fried Greek pastry balls(!loukourmades) are a dessert hard to resist.Like the Krispy Kreme fad years ago,I went with a certain reservation at the expense of my waist line. The interior is bright ,filled with color and professionally decorated. Their smallest box of 12balls,( half double chocolate and half egg nog) were easily finished along with a most delicious capaccino. An endless stream of Mother's buying for their kids was observed .The Greek puffs when eaten fresh are very tasty but oily. At home ,warmed very briefly in the microwave, the pastry retains it's soft yummy interior.Ironically I'd go back to Mr. Puffs for the coffee and the very knowledgeable young lady at the cash while leaving the pastries to those who are young and who can more easily burn...
Read moreI came in on a Sunday afternoon with my son. It was our first time trying Mr. Puffs, so I asked to try different flavors, the waiter replied that he could not make me a box with several flavors. So he gave me a box of Mr Puff without flavor with two ridiculous small sides of chocolate and caramel,. The puffs where cold and not good with an old fried taste. We were the only customers in the store... So thank you but no thanks I rather go to Léché Desserts or Krispy Kreme, service is just more friendly and at least you get fresh food, I think Tim Horton...
