My wife and I wanted to hold a reception for our daughter and fiancee. Question .. where?? We had selected a restaurant in Griffintown but someone suggested we look into La Piazza before committing.
We had dined there on a few occasions and while we always enjoyed our meals, it never occurred to us to hold an event there. I asked around for some feedback and heard positive reviews. So we decided to check them out.
Met with Billy, told him what were are requirements, eg , number of people, kind of crowd, and .. oh yes the budget.
He came up with a complete plan, covered all our requests and then some .. that's what he does. We were impressed and decided to hold our event at La Piazza.
Everything met or exceeded our expectations. The room was perfect. From the lighting to table setting .. right down to the placement of napkins.
And the food was terrific ... From the hors d'oeurves, to the salads, to the main courses and desserts .. delicious!
The pacing of the evening was great, the staff was really super .. and most importantly, the guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Could not ask for more.
So whether it be for a party or a quiet meal for two ... La Piazza - Le Challenger is definitely worth your...
Read moreIt has been my pleasure to eat at La Piazza for years now. Fine dining at its very best. The restaurant has a modern and distinguished look, and has multiple rooms which accomodate wedding parties, anniversaries, and special occasions of all kinds. Music is low and ambiant, you can definitely hear the waiters speak to you as well as talk amongst yourselves. The service is extraordinary, every waiter is experienced and seasoned, and knows how to adapt to your needs and tastes. Getting your food is not very long and you are allowed to eat at your own pace. And don't worry about an empty glass - that doesn't exist over there. Food is EXTRAORDINARY. Beautifully presented, carefully prepared, and just amazing tastes. To give an example, I don't like beets, and never order fish from any menu; yesterday I had pan-seared cod in olive sauce with (not sure what it was called) beet-flavored black rice. It was insanely delicious. These people feel like family, and with every meal is an exquisite white-glove level of service that we normally cannot find anywhere else. Obviously it's on the pricey side, but you truly get what you pay for. Don't crowd this place - it mustn't blow up or lose its quaintness....
Read moreReally disappointing! We went there based on the good reviews but very quickly realized that our meal wasn't going to be that great. For starters, we ordered the mozzarella di fiori, where the tomatoes were totally flavourless. For our main dishes, we ordered the gnocchi with lamb ragu and the tortellini in rosé sauce. The gnocchi was tough and rubbery like the kind you would buy from any run of the mill grocery store (although the pieces of lamb were pretty good, just lacked a bit of seasoning), and the tortellini was undercooked, slightly crunchy in the middle in some pieces, and tasted like the dried tortellini you just boil yourself at home. The entire meal was reminiscent of bad wedding food, or the kind of food you would get at an all-inclusive resort in Cuba - the general idea is there, but the execution is sorely lacking. The best part of this meal was the bread basket! Save yourself some money and buy a can of Chef Boyardee, it'll be just as good...
