June 4/24 update: I find this a quirky and glorious place to eat in my community. Rachel's is willing to take risks with their offerings (fish tacos with a combination of unexpected toppings). Are they perfect? Of course not. If you sit in the outside screened area, expect it to be a WARM greenhouse-like experience. I also respect Rachel's willingness to support community events. Give them a chance & go in there with the right attitude. @@@ original post @@@ As we develop our property near Gilles Lake, we (spouse & I) end up frequenting this establishment more & more. It has a small town vibe (with some memorable regular patrons). I find keeping a light heart & polite demeanour will make your visit successful. Clean washrooms! Heck, I like Lion’s Head so much, I secured rental accommodations on the main drag. Respect the locals (don’t be a jerk). Ah, and the perch and chips are worth the price!

Lovely restaurant and the staff are amazing as well. We were here on a thanksgiving weekend. And ended up eating at least once on all three days of our trip here. I’m not usually a fan of buffets especially breakfast. But they had really good eggs Bennie’s, bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, pancakes and pierogies. All for $15.95 which IMO is a steal. Lovely old gentleman attended to us on Sunday morning. And he was carrying out fresh trays of all the breakfast items even at 11:30 am for the buffet which ends at noon. Unfortunately did not get the chance to sample their thanksgiving buffet cos we were still stuffed from the brunch. We also tried their stuffed cannelloni on one of the days for dinner. It was amazing but the garlic bread served with it was phenomenal. Definitely give this place a go if you’re in the area!.

We took a four day trip to the Bruce Penninsula and stayed in an Airbnb, overlooking the bay and harbour, with my wife, son, and other relatives, last week. The pub was closed and there was an unfortunate fire in the Foodland, so we walked around the corner, to the main street and Rachel’s. As you enter you are greeted with a friendly “Hello, have a seat where ever you want”. The decorations are eclectic and vintage but tasteful. They were busy! Service a bit slow and some of the items were not available, but……… When the food came, I had Lasagne, the protions were generous and delicious. If you are heading up the Bruce Penninsula take the side trip to Rachel’s. You won’t be disappointed but you need to be patient! Lol!

So, there were a few problems with our experience with this restaurant to say the least. We hoped to help out a local restaurant in these hard times of covid. So we spotted this cute little cafe, and decided to order two burger combos to sate our hunger. One of these burgers, we asked they not have any pickles on it as one of our companions is revolted and detest the taste with a passion. The cashier then asked me whether or not we wanted the works which meant ketchup, mustard and relish. Thinking it referred to the burger WITH pickles, I said yes. Because if you didn't want pickles in one burger, why would anyone think that you'd like chopped up small pieces of pickles all over it (relish). Apparently this bit of what common sense went to get some milk and cigarettes that day, , because that burger came with relish smeared all over it. To top it off... the food was inedible on top of that for everybody else. I like salt. In fact, more salt than the average person. I add extra salt onto most restaurant fries including McDonald's. But... the food were almost inedible because they poured half a shaker's worth of salt onto it. At first, I thought the burgers were rather saltier than usual. But oh boy, then I tried the fries. The fries were so salty, I thought they were dipped into the Dead Sea then mummified by Tutankhamun. It was THAT salty. We tried pouring ketchup on it to finish it as that was less salty, and not waste food. But the salt overtook the ketchup, invaded our throats, overwhelmed all our sensory glands and left us gasping for air. Our tastebuds were so overwhelmed, we couldn't even taste our chocolate after that experience. The food felt rather like a Covid experience, and we did not sign...

I never leave a bad review. But this was ridiculous. My wife called and asked for a garden salad. The man on the phone said rudely, "not a chance. You're going to have to wait a half an hour". And would not place the order over the phone. I went in and asked. I was confronted by a miserable woman who said "yeah were really backed up"...also rude tone and very snippy. I told them i just wanted to order a salad and she said "well you're going to be waiting half an hour at least. What do you want to do". I turned around and said nevermind I don't like the way my wife was treated or I was treated. She said " fine go somewhere else we don't need your business." I was not rude at this point I was just showing I was not very happy. We are locals, and I urge everybody not to go there. This was the worst I have ever been treated. And we have been there in the past and havent been happy withbour food. We ordered wesrerns for our 3 kids and the toast was very burnt. We asked if thebcould retoastbit and they refused. They said there was nothing wrong with it..even though it was black. But i wasnt one to leave a negative review bc im not one to damage a small local business over some burnt toast. After treating their costumers rudely , they dont deserve to be in business. Way better restauraunts like mary dale's. And cindylou's fish and chips next store, all have Friendly staff. Also FDI in ferndale is worth the short srive for their...

Rachel's was recommended to us and maybe because it was one of the few places open to get something to eat in the area.

Upon walking into the restaurant, we couldn't tell who worked there or who was a patron. People were just sitting at a few tables. After a few minutes of us standing there, and still no service, we grabbed a menu from the counter to see what was being served and to possibly get someone's attention.

Finally someone got up from a nearby table who turned out to work there, but still didn't acknowledge us.

Then someone came out from the back and we had to stop them, to inquire about placing an order.

We decided to get a pizza to go because if service was that slow... who would want to be stuck waiting at a table for anything.

The pizza was decent, just getting the pepperoni, bacon and mushroom one.

Business picked up during our 30 minute wait for the pizza. The wait was okay as we were told it would take that long. The place seems to be popular with the locals. Maybe the service is better if they know you?

We were there at 5:30 PM, which is normal dinner hour. In my opinion employees should have been more attentive.

Word had it that they're struggling with getting staff like many other restaurants all over the place. Unfortunate if true.

But this is my review of our first and possibly only visit...
